Current service was under my home warranty so I only had a co-pay, but I had used them in the past for non-covered plumbing. We were pleased both times with the service and I would definitely use them again. this time was repairing a tub drain that rusted from age. The first time an outdoor water nib and broken sprinkler pipe. Rose is very professional on the phone and appointments very timely.

He showed up on time. Their dispatcher was easy to work with. He explained what needed to be done, went to get the part, fixed the shower the price was very close to the estimate he gave me. We were quite satisfied.

Clive arrived right on time to give me a quote for the replacement of my nearly 17 year old hot water heater. After looking at it he gave me a very competitive price. Then he asked me why I wanted to replace it. I explained that it was the original water heater and I was concerned it might go out soon. I showed hit a couple of small rust spots. He told me he has seen water heaters last for longer than this and that if it were him he would just keep an eye on it and when I see it start to leak a little call he back and then replace it. He also recommended a different brand saying the one I had has had some problems in the last few years. It is unusual to find someone who is willing to turn down a sure buck when the customer doesn't need to spend it. I WILL call Pinnacle Plumbing when I need to replace my water heater.

Icalled Pinnacle Plumbing because it had gotten 6 good reviews on Angie's list. I had first tried to get a plumber who had gotten more good reviews (25) than Cleve. When I told Cleve this he said that the other plumber had gotten so many good reviews because he told his friends to write them. He also impugned the character of the other plumber by saying something that I will not repeat. After my experience with Cleve I would not be surprised if he was the one who was telling friends to write good reviews. This is what happened:
I discovered that there was a leak associated with my water heater shortly after the New Years holiday. The heater was covered in an insulating blanket so I could not see where the leak was coming from. When Cleve arrived he expressed concern because the water heater was so big (75 gallons) and was out of specification for the Central Valley because of environmental regulations. He also stated that he would need help removing it so it would be costly to replace with a 50 gallon heater. He seemed to be more concerned with telling me the bad news than carefully inspecting the heater to ensure that it needed replacement. I remember him looking at the top of the heater where the pipes were connected but he did not use a flashlight to examine the unions closely.
After he left I started to look at the unit more carefully. I discovered that the leak was coming from the di-electric union that connected the inlet pipe with the heater. I called him up to tell him. At that point I did not blame him for missing the problem as I also assumed that the heater needed to be replaced. He was dismayed when I told him what the problem was and told me that he would come over right away to look. He came by within an hour. When Cleve arrived at my house he finally looked more carefully at the top of the heater with a flashlight. I was shocked and angered when he then turned to me and practically accused me of doing something to cause the leak after he had left. I explained that I did nothing but he seemed more intent on blaming me then admitting that he missed the real cause of the leak. Later he told me that the leak was and quot;weirdand quot; and that he never saw anything like this. I responded that the trouble-shooting section of the manual that came with the heater suggests looking at the di-electric unions when a leak occurs.
After we both calmed down he told me that if I didn't want him to fix the problem he wouldn't charge me anything for the visit. Afterwards his office called me and gave me a quote of $260 for replacing the union, the lady also told me that he would guarantee the part for one year instead of the usual three months and that if I wanted he would replace both di-electric unions at the same time for only $60 dollars more. As this seemed conciliatory and reasonable I told her to go ahead but only replace the one joint that was leaking. This later on turned out to be a mistake but it taught me a valuable lesson.
When he came over he literally spent less than 10 minutes replacing the leaking joint with a flex joint. When he disconnected the pipe to replace the joint he allowed the water to spill onto the floor. While he did this he looked at me and joked that there was another leak. I don't think he did this maliciously but I thought it was rather inconsiderate and immature. He charge me the estimated $260 and told me that he should have charge me more. He also tried to guarantee the work for only three months instead of a year. After I reminded him of what I was told me he agreed to a year.
A few days later the other joint started to leak. I then regretted not having him do both joints. I was going to call him again to fix the other joint but my wife's friend suggested I call someone else. I contacted the other person but he was very busy. Because the leak was very light I told him I was willing to wait. About a week later (yes he was that busy) I discovered that the leak had stopped (probably due to the calcium deposits from the leaking water). I never called this plumber back and ignored the problem realizing that at some point the joint would probably leak again and need to be replaced.
Months passed and the leak did not recur. Then recently I had a problem with my air conditioning unit and called a HVAC man who was excellent! When he finished the job I asked him if he could replace the di-electric unit that had been leaking. He gave me an estimate of $160 and we arranged a time. When he came by to replace the valve he ended up spending a little more time than he anticipated. However, he fixed the problem and when he replaced the joint he charged me only $97. Essentially he did the same thing that Cleve did (probably better) and charged me $163 less! He also never said anything bad about anybody else, including Cleve.
Sorry for the excessive length of this review. I tried to be fair accurate in reporting what happened. In short, I would not recommend Pinnacle Plumbing. Try to get the guy in Oakdale with all the great reviews.
Thanks for reading.

Response from Pinnacle Plumbing Service

"Yes [member name removed], you are right. There is no doubt that I had in fact made the wrong call on your water heaters initial diagnosis. And for that I appologize. I do remember as well, leaving your house thinking that I could have been far more friendly. We pride ourselves on always doing the right thing and keeping our emphysis on customer service, and if there is anything we can do to meet or exceed your expectaions in the future, we are absolutely going to. That's a promise. As to the cost, please consider calling other plumbing contractors and asking what their price would be to replace a 1" dielectric union that is leaking above the water heater w/ a new 1" flexable water supply that also needs a 1" MIP added. I'm sure you will find that we are more than competitive. As for your HVAC guy making that replacement for less, legally he is not even licensed to do so, per the contractors state license law. And by your own admition, he spent far more time on it than he had anticipated, and I'm sure he regrets even taking on that task for the price he did in retrospect. But what means more to us than anything Robert, is the fact that you are dissatisfied. I know that I could have done a better job diagnosing your problem, and that I could have been far more friendly that day, and for that, I truely am sorry. Every day we strive to be better than the one prior, and to assure to the best of our ability that each and every customer is as happy as they can be after needing to call a plumber. Sorry Robert from our family to yours, and please know that we wish you guys nothing but the very best!!! God bless!!"

I have nothing but good things to say about Cleve and Pinnacle Plumbing. I wanted to install a water softener in my home, and it involved running the water pipes underneath the front sidewalk ... he had to dig up the plants on the front patio, even made an extra trip to the store to change out the electrical outlet from a single to a double so I could plug in both the timer for the sprinklers and the water softener. It was a big big job, and he was efficient, helpful, and professional all the way ... I really felt like he went above and beyond to do a good job, which was greatly appreciated! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND :)

I originally called because my hot water heater was leaking, and I got an appointment almost immediately. Cleve came out and showed me the problem in about 5 minutes. He went and got a new hot water heater and was back in less than an hour. He then removed the old tank and discovered the issues with dirt under the floor and that one of the pipes was installed wrong and was bent. He proceeded to fix everything including having to dig out some dirt to make sure things would fit and he could replace that pipe, all in a few hours. Service was awesome and he cleaned up really nicely as well. Really great service, great guy, really friendly and kind. Thanks Cleve!!
