HERB & JEFF TILE

Description of Work: The shower is completed and it is beautiful in all respects. The tile job is superb. The bottom of the shower was finished using tar and the shower was tiled using the mortar method rather than with only Thinset. Our shower walls were not as straight as they should be, so Jeff, in using the old-fashioned mortar method, was able to correct any problems that existed with our walls. This was one of the reasons we hired him---the method he used was the one we preferred. His father tiled our entire home in 1977 and we had not had a single problem with the original tile in over 34 years of use. After tearing out the old tile (which took us four days), the wood inside the wall was in mint condition----no leaks had occurred in 34 years. Jeff built a corner bench per our request and it is filled with concrete and will support any weight. We used 13 x 13 inch porcelain tile that was in the upper range expense-wise, with the quarter-round being extremely expensive. Jeff charged us the same amount that the tile provider charged him, and we made the check out to the tile company. We also saved money through his use of pieces of the 13 x 13 tile for the floor. He used leftover pieces by cutting them into smaller pieces with which to tile the floor of the shower. We used mosaic tile (formed of marble, glass, and metal pieces) to form an accent strip and also used it to tile the back of the insert where the soaps and shampoo bottles go. Jeff made a shelf in this insert , formed from the tile itself, with a somewhat bull-nosed edge. He also tiled in a glass-block window and it looks fantastic. We cannot speak highly enough of his skills. Jeff's father, Herb Brownlee, taught him well. He worked about a week on the shower but did not always work full days. He appeared to be working on another job at the same time he worked on ours.
