BIG D'S FLOORS

I chose Dave because I thought the other contractors listed in Angie's list - companies specializing in major remodels - would not be interested in a small job such as this. Dave is friendly and seems eager to please. He stayed within the quoted price. He showed up on the day he said he would arrive, continued the job until finished and finished within the time frame he promised. Overall the floors look good. Unfortunately, I would not use him again because of the following reasons: 1) He could not or would not purchase supplies himself, even when I offered to give him a deposit check to cover materials. Although I had pre-purchased the laminate and the tile, he wanted me to pick up miscellaneous materials such as WonderBoard and ThinSet. I had to front him cash to get him to make those purchases, but still ended up having to make 2 trips to the hardware store for other items. 2) He did not bring materials to protect my carpet from the mess he and his assistant made tromping through the house. I put some small rugs on the pathways affected but that was not sufficient to protect my home. I am going to have to pay to have a carpet cleaner come out now. 3) Clean up was minimal. I've spent the past week cleaning up the dust, sand (from tile grout), and pieces of tile cement from floors, walls, furniture and even my garden out front where they did the mixing and cutting. They even rinsed tile grout down my bathroom sinks - I had to take the plunger to them. 4) Things that did not go as planned were "not his responsibility". When I asked Dave if he could remove and replace the molding in one of the bathrooms, he told me he would because he had special tools to make a clean cut between wall and molding. After he pulled the molding there was paint ripped off the wall that will need touch up and he was not so receptive to replacing it because he didn't have the right tool to nail it in correctly. The same bathroom had a bad squeak in the floor that we told him was very important to us to fix. He said he was 90 - 95% sure that the squeak would be fixed after he nailed the floor and layed the tile. The squeak is still there and the email I sent him about that has gone unanswered. When I inspected the tile work and noticed some water around the toilet his assistant said that it was due to the added height of the floor. It was clear to me that if I hadn't noticed it they would have left me to discover it later. Dave even said that plumbing issues were not his responsibility. After some discussion I went to the hardware store and purchases a thicker wax ring, which resolved the problem. 5) He asked me whether or not I wanted him to remove the molding in the closet, but didn't tell me until after he layed the laminate with a 1-inch gap to the wall that the gap was required for expansion. I thought I was saving an extra step later by not having to install new molding in a closet no one would see. Now I will need to have the molding fixed there. If he had told me up-front I would have made a different decision.

I hired Dave upon recommendation of Lumber Liquidators. He installed Strand Bamboo throughout my living room, dining room and kitchen areas. The work was done in a very professional and friendly manner and looks astounding. I highly recommend this person. He does all types of flooring, from tile to carpeting and hardwood.
