I actually blundered into San Benito glass while looking for another glass company. It is unobtrusively located on the fringes of old downtown merced. I liked the small display of samples in the office entry well enough to schedule an appt. to get an estimate for the work.
The owner came out in a few days and measured, as well as determined types of coatings for windows with more sun exposure, etc. He was very straightforward about price, time to do the work, etc. No particular sales pressure. He discussed the details and since he does the work himself could answer any questions.
He and his wife supplied an estimate within a couple days and we decided to go forward.
The windows took couple of weeks to arrive and were put in rather quickly. During parts of two days.
We went from windows with internal grids to ones without, 1/2 of each window can slide open. The final result was beautiful. The slider result was even better, replacing an atrium door and trim that had been totally beat up. My wife who has arthritis particularly likes the ease of opening the rather large windows and the slider. The quality of the Milguard windows and slider appear to be quite good and the installation has had no subsequent problems. This review is 1 year after the work was done.
The only problem was a slight measuring error when cutting one of the windows which meant either re-ordering the window or replacing a trim piece I had just painted. I elected to have the trim piece replaced, which Don did, and everything turned out well.
I recommended San Benito Glass to a friend who had some windows replaced and some re-glazing done, also very satisfactorily.

Excellent from start to finish

The price is very expensive considering it's a piece of glass for a door. I found them on Angie's List. I would use them again.

one problem. was supposed to get a pass-through screen( where the bottom half of the screen slides up) but they ordered the wrong piece. not a big deal though 'cause was installed a week later.

From the first time we met him, he was respectful of our home, wiped his feet before coming in, took off his hat, didn't lean on the walls, etc. He was prompt, and arrived exactly when he said he would so that we could plan our day. He was friendly to the kids and really stayed focused on the job. BUT the BIG thing was a completely unrelated repair that he did. He asked about a fixture hanging off the wall in one of the rooms, and I said that we had a handy-man that did a poor job, and that was the end of the conversation. When I went upstairs to see the finished windows the fixture was repaired better than the initial installation - what a GREAT surprise! He never said a word, just fixed it for us. That is truly above and beyond the call of duty! And the windows look AMAZING! Seamless installation, he cleaned up everything, they looked as if they were originally in our home. We could not even tell that he had been working there because both the inside and outside were SO CLEAN! I can hardly wait to have the rest of the windows done.
