I found Axis here on Angie's List (thank you to the other person who put in a review!) searching for personal trainers. I went to their site, read the bios of all the trainers, decided I wanted to work with Cyndi, called her up, and got started that day! :-) The best thing is that it exists solely for personal training. There are people with their trainers all over the place working out. No one is there working out alone. I have trained at 24 hour fitness before (3 different gyms, on and off, over the span of about 7 years) and don't like that I'm the only one working out with a trainer while others are working out, or worse, watching me. That's even worse if the trainer is loud, yelling at you to do more. Cyndi pushes me just enough, and does not yell. I hate trainers who yell at you! So, everyone is there for the same reason: training with a trainer. I have issues with knees and back. Cyndi is good about checking in with me to see if my knees or back are hurting from the exercise we are doing. The only thing I don't like is the price. It's 85/session. 24hour is more like 55 or 60 I think, and so is Powerhouse Gym in Redwood City. 85/session can add up quickly if you are going 2 or 3 times a week. Sometimes I go once/wk and sometimes twice/wk, and Cyndi is very cool about that. So they are 20 bucks more a session than the others I mentioned but you get what you pay for (I don't know how they compare to other places that are just training w/ no general gym access). I like the environment, all the trainers there seem to really know what they are doing, and they are all very friendly.

THE AXIS TRAINERS REALLY KNOW THEIR STUFF. THEIR FORTE IS DIAGNOSIS AND SPECIFIC FITNESS/PT REGIMENS. MY DAUGHTER IMMEDIATELY IMPROVED HER CORE STRENGTH, WHILE WORKING UP THE MUSCLES AROUND THE PATELLAR ALIGNMENT (ESPECIALLY VMI), AND THEN CALVES AND OVERALL QUADS. SHE WAS TRAINED IN APPLYING MCCONNELL TAPING TO THE KNEES, WHICH ALLOWS HER TO PLAY PAIN-FREE. WHEN SHE FIRST WAS INJURED (ONE YEAR AGO), SHE COULD NOT WALK OR EVEN SIT FOR MORE THAN 30 MINUTES WITHOUT PAIN. THREE MONTHS OF KAISER PT DID NOTHING TO IMPROVE THE CONDITION -- AXIS FOLLOWED AND WE SAW RESULTS THE FIRST MONTH.
