Hiring McHales was an excellent choice to take on this long-overdue improvement project. The staff was responsive, From Lisa in the office, John who took the measurements and provided the quote, and the absolutely amazing installation staff, I am thrilled with the work done, the professionalism, the honesty, and courtesy with which I was treated. The installers worked continuously, and were so methodical, neat and professional that I recommend you choose McHales.

These guys are as good as it gets. The owner, Dan, is a super nice guy as was the job foreman, Celso. They gave a great price, and were HONEST when it turns out that certain work was not needed after they started the job and were able to have a fair, rational discussion when we thought a square footage estimate was off due to some inaccessible parts of the attic. They worked quickly and were very clean. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Dan was terrific!  He came out a few months ago, explained what needed to be done - and even said we wouldn't be charged for part of our house.  His workers came out promptly a week or so later punctually and did the work.
More amazing, however, was when another contractor (whom we have used before and trust) disputed that the work had been done up to standards, Dan agreed to meet with that contractor and resolve any outstanding issues.  He showed up with two of his workers ready to perform any necessary work.  Our other contractor and he met together and, without any bruised egos, Dan acknowledged that, due to a possible misunderstanding, some more work needed to be re-done.  As it turned out, our other contractor also had misunderstood part of what McHale's had originally taken on to do.  Everything worked out fine!   Dan said that his philosophy is "to kill with kindness."  And I think that's what it's like doing business with him and McHale's.  I would highly recommend his company - and him! - to anybody who needs the kind of services they perform.

The builders of our townhouse laid the R-30 insulation so poorly that when we got an energy audit, they said that it was equivalent to an R-44.  So McHales Environmental Insulation came in and gave us the best solution to fix our problem with a great price. The team was on time and very professional.  They put up all the plastic and protection to protect the walls and and area in our closet that had the attic access.  They had to run the hose up through the third floor window, through our son's bedroom.  They put plastic up to cover all of his furniture.  Then they went in and setup the attic with additional baffles around the service platform.  Then they blew in the cellulose up to the R-44 that we requested.  They cleaned up and left the house the way they found it.  Very professional, very friendly.  We would definitely use them again when we put additional insulation into our other walls. We have noticed a big difference in the temperature in our house.  The temperature is holding much better and the heater does not go on as much as it did previously.  We are very pleased.

The first impression provided by the gentleman who came to quote the job was excellent. He really took his time and performed a thorough inspection so that he could give me useful advice in what services I needed. Other contractors I interviewed were not as thorough and, as such, it seemed to me that their work might reflect that. Because of this first impression, and that their price was in line with other contractors, I went with McHale's.

They spent one day removing all the insulation from the two attics at my house. I inspected the work that night and found their work to be very complete and thorough, which is great because rats lived in my house many years ago and I wanted all that contamination removed. The next day they came and installed the new insulation. I asked for some additional insulation along one wall that seems to get hot during the summer. They applied an additional complete layer of insulation along with wall with straps to hold it in place. They even insulated the access door. Really a top job in my opinion.

I highly recommend using McHale's for your insulation jobs.

Great job! Dan Hair came out and gave me a very reasonable quote. Another company came with their fancy computer program and gave me an outrageous quote without even going in the crawl space. I did my research and both companies have very good reviews online. I am glad I went with McHale. Dan patiently answered all my questions and always responded to my emails promptly. His employees were courteous, prompt and cleaned after themselves each day. After the work was done, Dan continued to help me follow up on the status of my rebate. Net cost of job after PG&E rebate was just 30% of initial cost. What a deal! I am one happy customer of McHale's. Thanks Dan!

Decided to upgrade the attic insulation to bring it up to code.   McHale provided two quotes - one to add on top of the old insulation and the other to remove the old insulation and replace it with cellulose insulation.  I decided to go with the more expensive removal/replacement option because of the presence of rodent droppings.  Cellulose insulation has additives that are supposed to make it less attractive to rodents.    The quote from McHale wasn't the cheapest I got, but I choose the company based on their reputation and reviews.  I was not disappointed with their service.
The process took two half days - one day to remove the old insulation and one day to seal air penetrations and install new insulation.   The company arrived on time both days.   Insulation removal is a messy process, but the company sealed off the area so that there was no contamination.   At the end of day one, I went up into the attic and inspected my wiring to make sure that there were no issues.  I did have a problem with a ceiling light fixture that was not adequately secured, but McHale worked with me to seal and secure the fixture.   On day 2, the installers sealed all air penetrations and blew in new insulation.  The also added fiberglass batts on my uninsulated kneewall.  As a bonus, they added an extra layer of insulation on the attic access door.  The added insulation looked very uniform to me.  The city building inspector also commended the company for doing an excellent job.
The city required a building permit for replacing attic insulation.  McHale took care of all the details (except the permit fee, which I paid) and were present during the final inspection.

It went great. Arrived on time each day. They were 15 minutes late the second day, but they called me to let me know they were in traffic. They cleaned and vacumed at the end of each day. We are already seeing the benefits of the job as the furnace appears to be running more efficiently.

They insulated the entire house with blown-in insulation and also batt/rolls in the crawl space.  Approx 2000 sq ft house.  They finished quickly.  They responded quickly when a few days later when I discovered one of our lights was filled in with insulation and fixed the problem.  Also fixed some areas where nails where popping out of the sheet rock from to much pressure when it was blown in from the outside.

Clogged all soffet vents-failed to install dams to keep vents from getting covered. Cut a 110 volt ectrical circut when borring blowhole. Tried to blow in insulation a room that already had Fiberglass insulation. Reluctantly returned to correct air vents to attic only when I advised that payment would be withheld until correction completed.

I really used them because my friend has known that company since childhood and that is why I use them, so I didn't necessarily get go off Angie's list I may have kind of looked through, but the final decision I made was because of my friend knowing them, but they did do a good job. They were little expensive and all companies charge about the same because I had an estimate from another company and it was about the same and it was the going rate. The only trouble is they were one man short. It may have taken little longer, but it didn't take an excessively long period of time, I think that it might not have been as clean as I wanted it to be, but I would still say they did a good job.

3-man crew arrived on time (in fact, they were early!) Covered open areas of room with plastic to protect it from removal of old and install of new insulation. 1st day, removed insulation and sealed air penetrations; 2nd day, finished air seal and installed installation. Crew finished job early. Have noticed a difference in inside temperature of house about 8-10 degrees cooler! Would use McHale's again.

It all went great! I felt so bad for the workers because they came out in the afternoon during that heat wave last week. I think it was the hottest week so far this year. Temperatures were upper 90's-100's in some areas. Of course that means the attic was even hotter than that. But, they spent a few hours and did the job well. The difference was dramatic.
I chose McHale's Environmental Insulation because the estimator, Greg Blanc spent the time answering my questions and I really appreciated that. He was happy to explain things, and even suggested other ways to cool down the house. He was friendly and professional. I actually had 3 top rated companies from Angie's list give me estimates.1 of them never got back to me, but the other 2 were just about same price.
Bottom line is they were professional; they said what they were going to do, and then they did what they said. All for a good price. My wife and I are very happy with our choice!!

First of all, let me say that the employees were great! Anthony was a pleasure to have on the job, and Ray did a great job ensuring the insulation covered every area. The gentlemen that installed the Radiant Barrier did a phenomenal job as well. They reached the areas that I thought were impossible. Thanks Guys! They finished the job in two days. They were on-time each day and put in the extra hours to get the job done on schedule.

After the job was completed, I noticed a couple of minor things. A few of my recessed lights were out - probably from all the moving around above. I replaced the bulbs, but noticed that one of the lights would go out after 10 minutes or so, then turn on again. I also went into the attic to take a closer look and noticed an unprotected wall (not sure if it's called the ridge wall). It's basically just framing with tar paper where the roof peak meets - no insulation. I voiced my concerns to the salesperson who came out to re-inspect. He said that he would have to check with the guys about the lighting, then get back to me. As for the un-insulated wall, he dismissed it and said don't worry about it, that it wouldn't make a difference. I did expect a call back, but 3 weeks later, still had not. I called the office to let them know that I was expecting a follow-up from the sales guy, but had not received one get. I was called back immediately by the owner, Tom.

I explained the light issue and the exposed wall in the attic. Tom immediately offered to have his guys come out, fix the light and install Radiant Barrier on the unprotected wall. This also meant that they would also have to re-insulate the disturbed areas.

I am profoundly appreciative for the level of service I received. And for the owner to respond in the manner that he did, proves that McHale's is not "just" another insulation company. They truly stand behind their service.

Thank you Tom for standing behind your work.

For those of you who are reading reviews before considering which company to go with, I can't say enough good things about McHale's and their level of service.

McHale's Insulation came out to my clients house and insulated the exterior walls of the 2 south facing rooms. They were professional, clean and fast.  The process involved poking a holes in the wall to blow the insulation into the wall cavity.  The crew completed their task efficiently and repaired the holes to near original finish so the painters could easily finish the painting.  The holes are no longer visible and the rooms are markedly more comfortable.
Thank you McHale's Insulation for doing such a great job!
