We just had a plaster wall above our fireplace and we wanted to put in a stone. We put in big, huge pieces of lime stone. I don?t even know if it is lime stone; it sure does look like it. We provided the material and they installed it. It was not an expensive job. They did a fast and good job. It was not complicated.
Description of Work: Jackson & Jackson Construction put in some stone work around our fireplace in September.

We spent $30000 for the job and another $10000 on fixtures and appliances. Jackson recommended the people from whom to buy the appliances and we purchased them directly from the supplier. We were pleased with them. They started of very well. They were really on the top of things. However, towards the end we felt that we had to push them to do something. They ended up getting some more work, which we fully understand. They got a little unfocused on finishing our job at the end. They applied their resources to other areas when they should have wrapped up our job first. They did take care of everything we asked for and made sure that we were fully satisfied. The quality of work was really good. They were good at listening; helping our vision come to life. We had designed it ourselves. I would recommend them to others. Their price was reasonable. They were very professional. They were here when they said they were going to be here everyday.
Description of Work: Jackson & Jackson Construction remodeled our master bathroom about a month ago. They started the job in July.

Terrible. I submitted the first ever report about John on Angieslist in December of 2007 after he did a $23,000.00 remodeling job for me. The report is glowing. Things have changed. I asked John to do a handful of smaller projects at the middle of February. On march 9 I gave him a deposit of 50% and MOST of the work got done shortly thereafter. He got paid the balance before finishing (which was a mistake on my part). The problem is, two months later the job isn't done. John told me he would be back the following day to finish (repaint window sills, install slide bolts in all of my french doors). He did not show. He then made 4 other appointments and did not show (or call). I tried to be patient and was. I would call and get another excuse and another promise. The last time we spoke I told him there was a problem with the gate and I needed that fixed when he finally finished the work that needed to be done. He was annoyed and said I needed to be patient. He was slammed with a big job and would finish mine soon. That conversation was two and a half weeks ago and still nothing. I am going to hire a handyman to do the remainder of the job and I will not be using John again.
Description of Work: New gate for side of my house, re-grout shower floor, seal grout in two showers, install slide bolts on french doors, paint window sills, make new valance for bedroom, make floating drawers for bedroom

John Jackson was my contact with Jackson & Jackson with regard to the initial proposal, contract administration, work schedule, QC etc. I choose Jackson and Jackson, although they were by far the highest bidder, based on my instincts that John would do quality work and not be requesting additional money throughout the job as he discovered complexities initially not apparent or came to a full understanding of the scope of work throughout job execution as is so often the case. While I am generally pleased with the work product (MUCH fine work was completed), there is some work that I do not feel represents quality work. For instance, kick boards that were installed on John?s recommendation (and at extra cost) at the time of the hardwood floor installation did not come out looking very good or consistent with the existing look of the house. Also, during the job, there were times when I had to step in and demand rework when the initial job was not up to my standards or in line with my understanding of the SOW. My concerns about quality are not major. My major complaint with Jackson & Jackson comes down to the professionalism of its representative John Jackson. I found that he was too sensitive and too immature to accept criticism or understand a contrary point-of-view which, due to his immediately defensive posture, always resulted in confrontation. I wish I would have felt that John was handling quality control on my behalf but I seldom saw him reject poor quality work or even acknowledge it when it was pointed out to him. As a result, my dealings with John quickly degraded to a series of unpleasant confrontations. In addition, John would often arrive at the job site with an aggravated disposition which he attributed to other situations and jobs that had nothing to do with me. As the job progressed our relationship derailed to the point that in the end he was not talking with me. The final confrontation came when, after I had already promptly paid John $29,967 (of a $28,428 contract), he stormed out of my house threatening liens against my property with my refusal to pay him the final payment of $2,428 when he demanded it. I withheld the final because he had yet to complete all of the work including the replacement of a window that his staff had accidentally broken 3 weeks previously. He completed the work about 1 week later for full payment. So what is my final take on the experience? First, I regretted selecting the highest bidder. I did not find that I received extra value for the extra money. Secondly, I do suggest that you get every discussed detail in writing throughout the entire project as the willingness to deliver is connected to the current feeling of goodwill. Finally, if you want a pleasant experience along with good work I cannot recommend Jackson & Jackson. I was very glad when John left and peace returned to my home.

I run a small non-profit business and John was referred to me by a collegue. We moved to a new location and had to have the space built out to suite our needs. Several walls were removed to make a large meeting room. We added a kitchen and made our bathroom ADA complient. I had three bids and John's was very competitive. He was very professional & finished on time and on budget. He worked with me to keep costs down, and all of his men were very professional.

This member is organized and professional. He works for a non-profit organization and runs it beautifully. He knows his job well and allowed us to do ours. We were able to get everything we needed to get done on schedule and do it well because he was such a good client. We went through the plans with him and his architect, discussed important details and he was open to suggestions and the job came out exactly how he wanted it. We have had continued work with him since the initial job and every time we have worked for him has been a pleasant experience.

This job turned out well because the client trusted the process. She had an idea of what she wanted and was able to describe it and we worked through it together and the job came out beautifully. She is one of those perfect clients that found Jackson and Jackson Construction through Angie's list and trusted her instincts. It's a pleasure to work with clients like this.

I was really lucky to find John and his crew. The project took five weeks and every weekday at 8 am they were waiting for me to open up the house so they could get started. I never had to wonder whether they would show up. The work is nothing short of stunning. The first part of this project was building a new custom wall unit with drawers and closets in one of my bedrooms. Prior to John, I got an estimate from "Closet World" and it was nearly $6000 for fake wood. John made our wall unit out of maple and it is awesome. The driveway is the envy of my street and John and his guys took such pride in the installation which was VERY involved (first they had to remove the old driveway, then excavate, then put in concrete curbs, and then fill the driveway area with gravel, sand, and then the pavers). My old driveway was nowhere near level. My new driveway sure is! Everything John and his guys did was done with precision. And above all he was very straightforward and fair!
Description of Work: John installed a new driveway (interlocking pavers), built a custom wall unit of drawers and closets in one of my bedrooms, re-tiled my fireplace, built new custom dormer doors for my crawl spaces, built new closet doors for my office as well as an in-wall component cabinet, sanded and refinished all of my threshholds on all my doors and windows, painted all of the baseboards in my livingroom and bedroom, and repaired an exterior wall that had been water damaged.

He knew exactly what he wanted and was a pleasure to work for. He was open and willing. He understood the process and trusted me to get the job he wanted done. Part of Jackson and Jackson's company policy is any additional work done we would give a customer like Ron a 10% discount. This is exactly the kind of customer we love do work for. Every Angie's List customer has been great to work with.
