California Story Poles

I contacted Dallas Rutherford by phone on May 2, 2013. We are building a home in Carmel Valley, and we needed story poles erected for the county planning department. These are the poles with the orange netting at the top. My designer had already contacted his local contractor, who had given an estimate for $3000. I asked him if he would mind if I called and obtained another estimate. My designer said it wasn't a problem, and that's when I contacted California Story Poles. I spoke with Mr. Rutherford, who asked me to email him pictures of the elevations and roof lines, which I did. The next day I received an email, stating he didn't have enough information to give me an estimate, but he could "probably beat the other quote." I replied to him, "Thank you, anyways." When I arrived home that evening, I checked my email and was surprised to see a reply from Dallas Rutherford who said it was just as well, as I had already hired someone else, and it was very inconsiderate of me to be possibly screwing up another guy's workday." I was flabbergasted. I wrote back that I hadn't hired anyone yet, and it was rude to assume I was being inconsiderate. He replied with seven words: "You are clearly an idiot. Go away." In all my dealings with contractors, I've never seen such poor customer service and lack of respect. I started searching for reviews for this company, and I'm not the first one to be insulted. There are lots of reviews out there, so please do your homework. Save yourself a headache and hire the local guy! PS. To those who are still skeptical that a contractor would actually write that, I have saved all the emails, so if anyone wants to read it for themselves, I would be happy to send a copy.
