Badly!! I had purchased the puppy package, which was to include office visits for immunizations and obedience classes for the life of my dog. I took my puppy in for his immunization appointment and because a procedure was performed that was not covered under the puppy package (I agreed to pay for the test) they charged me again for the office visit. I was told it was because of the test and the fact i requested to see the veterinarian, who I learned was not included in the puppy package after the initial visit. I disagreed with that charge and discussed it with one of the owners, Rich, of the facility. He was rude and REFUSED to credit me for the charge, stating, "we're not going to be able to come to a resolution", that it was their normal business practice. Over $27.30 they lost us as customers. Also, after purchasing the puppy package, I learned that their puppy classes consist of a 5 week program that keeps recycling and only teaches very basic commands. The classes are held in their very small parking lot. I would NOT recommend this veterinary clinic to anyone.
Response from Whispering Pines Pet Clinic
"The member requested the urinalysis and recheck examination (it is actually our policy to charge for a full exam when a patient presents with a new problem but we gave this client a break and only charged half price) and signed an estimate stating the full costs involved before anything was done. Furthermore, our receptionist discussed all of the charges on the estimate prior to the member signing it, including the recheck exam. During the phone call with Rich referenced by the member, the member threatened to write a bad review online if she was not credited the recheck exam fee, which she obviously did. And for the record, the puppy classes are held not only in our wooded and shady parking lot, but also behind the clinic where we have 8 fenced in wooded acres, but the member wouldn't know this because she only attended one class and apparently complained so much that another classmate had to tell her to be quiet."

All of our critters are cared for by these fantastic people. From the front desk to the Dr. there is so much love for animals that it is quite exciting. We have taken our Dog and Cat's for problems as well as the necessary vaccinations to keep them well. I can't say enough about the staff here, they are truly professional and on the ball. With one doctors visit they offered us free nail clipping forever. If you need to train your dog they even have classes that are wonderful! Do yourself and your critter a favor go see these wonderful folks.

I am extremely impressed with Dr. Weber and based on all my years with the animals, he is probably one of the most caring vets that I have ever had. He is extremely up-to-date. He keeps himself up-to-date and does all the latest surgical procedures on the premises. He answers emergency calls himself which you cannot find anywhere else. He is also certified as an avian expert which is very rare.

My dog is my baby, so when I noticed that she had blood in her urine, my husband took her to Whispering Pines the next morning. They were able to see her even though she did not have an appointment. They took x-rays and determined that she had a severe bladder infection that caused her to have stones in her bladder. The vet said that she needed to have surgery the next day to remove the stones. They showed my husband all of the equipment they would use and walked him through the surgery to ease his mind and so he could explain the procedure to me later. She went for surgery the next day and it went very smoothly. When I picked her up, they took the time to show me all the things they showed my husband the day before. Everyone was so friendly and it was obvious that they cared about my dog's health as much as I did. They advised that she needed to be watched for the next few days, so if I needed to, I could bring her in to the clinic to spend the days for no charge. Luckily I work from home, so it was not an issue, but I was impressed that they were willing to go that extra mile. My pup hasn't had any similar issues since then, and everything healed well. I would recommend Whispering Pines to anyone who loves their pets, because you can be sure that the staff there will care about them as much as you do!

I brought my cat in because he was walking around like he was drunk. He was drinking copious amounts of water, frequent and a lot of urination, and increased appitite. In addition, he was 16 pounds, and now he weighs 11. He walks on the halks of his hind legs, and his back is arched. I was very concerned about his problem. Dr. Weber ran some blood test and discovered that he was diabetic. The STANDARD PROCEDURE is to keep a cat for 3-5 days, depending on how long it take for a cat to get comfortable in the hospital and feel calm enough so that their blood sugar does not spike, and the doctors are supposed to check their blood sugar every two hours to FIGURE OUT EXACTLY how much insulin your individual cat needs, as it varies from cat to cat. Dr. Weber did not do this. He simple told me to give him 5cc of "Vetsulin" (which is now off the market, and I was not told this), and see how he does. By the way, All of the Vetsulin will be gone soon, and all diabetic animals will have to switch to "Humulin" and need to be re-evaluated as the concentration of insulin is different than in Vetsulin. After one month, there was absolutly no change in my cat. I took him in, and Dr. Weber told me to just give him another 5cc at night as well after feeding him some food. Now, my cat also has a condition called "Stomatitus". His throat is inflamed and is horribly tender. He has trouble swollowing dry cat food. Dr. Weber put my cat on Prednisone and another medication to help (temporarily) take care of the swelling and reddness. What HE DIDN'T TELL ME, was that the Prednisone totally messes up insulin levels and will render insulin shots, useless. I brought my cat to a specialist that I used to work for, who is 1.5 hours away from where I live, and through that vet, and my own research, is how I found out all of this information. I was told by Rich Gingery, that if these doses of insulin don't work, then I need to concider euthinasia for my cat, because, "that is all they can do for him". The Vet that I took him to recently, did things the right way, and my cat is doing great. I will not dump anymore money (which seems to be a high point of this office) into these guys, as it seems that money matters more than STANDARD, PROPER, PROCEDURE.
Response from Whispering Pines Pet Clinic
"Fortunately, Angie's List allows medical providers to respond to false accusations like these. However, I do not believe this is the correct forum for The Member's post; if The Member thinks we did something wrong I invite her to complain to the California Veterinary Medical Board and they can make a decision after reviewing her medical records. Making false claims in a public forum such as this is spiteful and potentially libelous, as people reading it do not have all of the facts and may make incorrect assumptions about our practice. Unfortunately, I am limited as to the specifics of The Member's case under the privacy laws, so I will attempt to explain as much as I can in generalizations, and note that I am only responding to the Member's comments in defense of her accusations directed against me and my practice. First, The Member has incorrectly stated the standard procedure for initial diabetes treatment. The standard procedure for initial diabetes treatment, according to the main veterinary endocrinology textbook (Feldman and Nelson, Canine and Feline Endocrinology and Reproduction, 2nd. Ed., P. 363) is "...newly diagnosed dogs and cats are typically hospitalized for no more than 24-48 hours...to begin insulin therapy" and "the objective during this first visit is NOT to establish perfect glycemic control...." Second, The Member misstates the amount of insulin recommended; it was not 5cc as that would probably be a fatal dose. Typical doses are more along the lines of 0.05cc. Third, The Member's assertion that the cat developed stomatitis after the diabetes is incorrect by approximately 4 years, as evidenced by the medical records. Fourth, we typically recommend oral prednisone for stomatitis because injections of long-acting steroids could lead to diabetes. This point was discussed at length with The Member, as it is with every cat owner who wants injectible steroids, so as to ensure the owner's understanding of this point before we give the injection. Further, whenever there are concurrent diseases in a diabetic cat, we discuss the fact that steroids adversely affect glucose regulation repeatedly with the owners and always recommended other options for treating diseases such as stomatitis. Finally, with regard to the accusation that our office values money more than proper procedure or practice, this statement is completely false. I am an American Board of Veterinary Practitioners double Board Certified Specialist in Canine and Feline Practice and Avian Practice. I, along with each member of my staff, strive to give the utmost care to our clients' pets. My recommendations usually do not only meet “standard, proper procedure,” it almost always exceeds the current standard of care for veterinary medicine. Every time we recommend diagnostics or a course of treatment to a client, we provide a detailed estimate of costs first. Clients with complex cases can therefore get quite a few estimates over the course of treatment. If the client declines any portion of the recommended work, they are required to acknowledge this in writing, as was the case with The Member here. We focus on giving a higher standard of care for our clients' animals, and are strong believers in clients getting an accurate estimate of the recommended work."

Max made it! Everything turned out much better than expected, and he's doing fine now. I'm so thankful that Whispering Pines Pet Clinic was really there for me in a crisis. Although I don't have any birds or exotic pets, Dr. Weber is one of the few vets in the entire country that is both a Board Certified Avian Specialist, and Board Certified Canine and Feline Specialist. It doesn't get any better than that. His partner, Rich Gingery is a gregarious animal behaviorist and trainer who also manages the clinic. Along with their technicians and Sarah at the front desk, Whispering Pines has a terrific team. The folks at Whispering Pines Pet Clinic are really great -- highly qualified, professional, friendly, and compassionate. We're lucky to have them in our area. If you live in Magilia, Paradise, or the Butte County region, and especially if you have birds or exotic pets, I strongly recommend Whispering Pines Pet Clinic.
