Response from Rick Del Santo Painting
I am Rick Del Santo. I met with (member name remove) on May 31, 2013 at her mobile home in Morro Bay. I quoted $600 to paint all walls, ceilings, trim and bedroom cabinets. Client was to pay for all materials. I estimated that we could finish this job in one day. I did not request or receive a deposit. Day 1: 61/12013 My helper, Ray & I arrived about 1 hour late. I had my trailer with me with all the needed supplies. It was necessary to spend time moving stuff out of her bedroom, then we removed all hinges & cabinet doors. I told (member name remove) that I was taking the hinges & cabinet doors home to clean, sand, prep & paint them in my garage. We then proceeded to prep & prime the entire bedroom. At the end of the day, (member name remove) gave me a check for $300. My helper was paid $150. Day 2: 6/2/2013 On arrival, we found that much of what we had removed, was BACK in the bedroom and we had to move it out again. By then end of this day the walls, ceilings and trim were finished in the bedroom & kitchen. While working, (member name remove) asked us to hang several photos, and we did. Before leaving, (member name remove) gave me a check for $300 and $150 went to my helper. Day 3: 6/3/2013 I spent this day working on the cabinets & hinges in my garage. Before I sanded the four tiny cabinet doors, which had painted glass inserts, (member name remove) notified me that she had changed her mind and now wanted wood inserted where the glass was. My helper, Ray told her that he would do that and they would work any payment out on the side. She was fine with that agreement. As a result of HER change, those 4 small cabinets did not get painted. Day 4: 6/4/2013 My helper & I carried the cabinet doors into the mobile home. I remarked to (member name remove) that I was anxious to finish this job, as it had taken longer then expected. As WE were hanging the first cabinet door, she called my Ray in the other room to ask him to take something apart. As he was doing that , she started discussing with him other work she wanted to hire him for. They were negotiating a fee and she asked him to start working for HER immediately (as I was finishing hanging the 1rst cabinet door by myself). (member name remove) approached me and asked me if I felt that Ray was capable of doing the work I wanted to hire him for. My answer was “Yes, but whatever you two work out, it excludes me. It is between you and Ray”. I then told (member name remove) I really needed to leave and Ray could finish hanging the cabinet doors. (member name remove) was fine with that. She asked me how much more she owed me, and I told her $200. She said “Fine” and gave me a check for the $200. I have not been back and certainly did not demand money from her.
