No more vacuum cleaner nightmares!
After struggling for years with various vacuum cleaners, typically made in China, that always seemed to have problems and never really did the job I had hoped for, I decided to do some serious homework to come up with something that didn't...well, suck. Consumer Reports guidance led me to the idea of a Miele, made in Germany, being one of the best offerings in the marketplace, so I called around to find a dealer to talk with. On the Sunday before Xmas, I called The Vacuum Cleaner Shop, which was closed, to find out hours and, happily, was greeted by the owner. I explained that I was seeking information and he said that he would be at the store working for another few hours and I'd be welcome to come by.
Alan has been in business for years and really knows his product and the "competition". He not only educated me about the different types of vacuums (you have to use the right device and configuration for a given task), he demonstrated! As I purchased the Miele he recommended, I noted some of the machines in for repair or service at his shop. One was a 20 year old Miele! My new vacuum works beautifully, quietly, and is clearly going to give many years of service without problems.
I can't thank Alan enough the education and for bringing me into the 21st century of vacuum cleaner engineering.

They do a very good job. It is a small old fashined store but it is very reliable. I think the price they gave me for a new vacuum was very reasonable.

HORRIBLE. PREVIOUSLY HAVE ATTEMPTED TO USE THIS SHOP FOR MINOR REPAIRS. AFTER STATING I HAD A HOOVER VACUUM, WHICH THE SHOP CARRIED, I WAS TOLD WHAT A BAD MACHINE I HAD. THIS EXPERIENCE WAS NO BETTER. THE GENTLEMAN POINTED TO A CHART STATING THAT THE MACHINE I HAD HAD A RECALL ON IT. HE DID NOT OFFER TO ASSIST ME WITH GETTING THE RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED JUST CONTINUED TO POINT AT HIS CHART AS STATE HE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING.
Response from The Vacuum Store
"THIS MODEL OF THE HOOVER VACUUM WAS ORDERED RECALLED BY THE CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION, AND REPAIRS WERE FREE AT A HOOVER AUTHORIZED REPAIR CENTER. WE ARE NOT A HOOVER CENTER. SHE MAY HAVE PURCHASED THIS VACUUM FROM THE PRIOR OWNER OF THIS STORE. I HAVE NO RECORDS OF THAT. NOTWITHSTANDING, THIS STORE WAS NOT AUTHORIZED TO REPAIR FOR WHICH THE VACUUM WAS RECALLED. THE CUSTOMER DID NOT WANT TO LISTEN TO THAT."
