It took us 2 months to select a contractor for the project. Rick wasn't the cheapest but he was both competitive and more importantly invested the most in learning the project and its details during the bidding process.
During the project Rick proved to be super professional and accommodating to our needs and number of change requests. We had our second daughter born 5 weeks before her due date, before the house was finished. Rick prioritized our project and did everything humanly possible to expedite the remaining work so we can move back in to the house ASAP.
Great quality, subject matter knowledge, attention to details, "customer service" and timeliness.

Many architectural details and complex planning went into this modern transformation of a 1920's house, and we are incredibly happy with how Rodrigues Builders worked with us from start to finish.  Rick Rodrigues, the owner, was excellent at understanding our vision and adding value already in the early planning meetings.  This even though we were working with an architect based in Los Angeles, which made communication about details all the more challenging.  It was also a great asset that Rick had a lot of experience working on quality homes in the area, so he was able to contribute many ideas and insights into how to accomplish the things that we wanted.

From a building standpoint, the quality was definitely above average.  This being the third house we've remodeled, we have worked with a number of contractors and this has been the best team so far.  We are very hands-on with our building projects and were at the site almost daily, and the subcontractors were all trust worthy and great to work with.  Only one instance there was a subcontractor that Rick had not worked much with before, and he got the boot when his work was not up to snuff. Rick was very on top of it and was very prompt in finding a good replacement without the project getting behind.

Another thing that really stood out was how skillfully Rodrigues was able to communicate with the inspectors and the building department.  We had few issues that either needed revision or special approval, and Rick's insight into how to work through red tape at the city ended up saving us time and money, as opposed to if we had approached it with standard procedures.

The price was fair and stuck to what was agreed to in the bid/contract. They were not the lowest bid we got, also not the highest, but we absolutely believe we got a good value.  With contractors it still pretty much holds that you get what you pay for.
