The project overall went really well...Marks crew and subcontracators  were very professional and communicated with each other throughout the process. I felt comfortable with  all the guys working on the project  coming and going in my house.The time Mark spent helping me decide on what materials,colors and styles was very helpful in speeding up the process. Marks attention to detail  was much appreciated. If a problem  came up it was addressed in a timely manner and it never held the project up. The job site was always left clean and orderly.The time line was pretty much what he said it would be and  my neighbors even commented on how fast things were going compared to the project   they were having done by another contractor. The house looks beautiful now and might just be the nicest looking house in the neighborhood.

We purchased our downtown San Jose condo approximately two years ago with the knowledge that the kitchen needed to be updated.  While the condition of the kitchen was fine, it was not modern enough for our taste.  When we decided to start the process, we interviewed a couple of contractors who, while highly recommended, were a bit high in price.  Based on the recommendation of my realtor, I asked Mark Rodriguez of Mark Allen Construction to give us a quote.  I immediately liked Mark, as he is very laid back and has a great sense of humor.  He explained how he works, what his initial thoughts were, and then scheduled time at the condo to see the kitchen and bathrooms in order to provide a bid.  The overall bidding time took longer than expected, but that was due to the schedules of the subcontractors and the sheer amount of options available.  If this is your first time remodeling, I recommend factoring in extra time just to go through options.  I really liked Mark's overall team.  His team of subcontractors was exceptional, both in their work style and approachability.  They were patient in their explanations and offered alternatives and solutions in order to save on costs.  The project actually took a lot less time than originally estimated, so we were very pleased with that.  Mark has a great individual (Dennis) working with him, so he was able to help with unplanned smaller projects such as patch work, painting, and towel rack replacement, etc.  We liked Dennis so much that we plan on having him help us with additional home projects shortly.  When each piece of the project was completed, Mark not only independently inspected the work, he contacted me to get my thoughts.  When things weren't completely perfect and yet acceptable, Mark overrode my decisions to leave things as is and he made the subs re-do certain tasks.  I truly appreciated this and it left us with a heightened sense of confidence in Mark.  In the end, the project went extremely smoothly.  We stayed on budget and the work was completed quickly.  The kitchen and baths look stunning and I couldn't have been happier with Mark and team.  In fact, I have since asked Mark to replace all of my interior doors and woodwork throughout the house.  Once you find a contractor in whom you have such trust, getting things done is so much easier.  Mark Allen Design and Construction gets a definite "10" from me.

His price is fair and seems reasonable. He is very responsive and personable with his interactions. He has really helped us. He did a lot of research, talking to other professionals in the field, to help us understand what we need to do to our home. I appreciate his professionalism and willingness to do extra research to find out what and the best way to have things done. He always arrives on time. He stops in time to time to check on work or update us on information. He did not need to do this but took the extra step with us to be supportive and help us along with our traumatic experience.

It was a pretty good experience. I had to be out of the house for a couple of days. When they were done I was able to return to my house. I have not had a problem with the ants since they came. They were courteous and easy to get along with.

THE INSPECTOR, MARK RODRIGUEZ DID AN EXCELLENT JOB. HE ALLOWED ME TO FOLLOW HIM AS HE DID THE INSPECTION. HE INFORMED ME OF POSSIBLE 'HOT SPOTS' AND HOW THEY COULD BE DEALT WITH IF NECESSARY. HE WAS BOTH QUICK AND EFFICIENT
