I tend to over research so I had a huge stack of termite company recommendations accrued from various sources ? word of mouth, Angie?s List, and past experience. I went with all three to select Yamaguchi.
It was a long process from inspection to repairs and finally to fumigation. Richard came out to inspect the house (June 24). Although Richard was very thorough, he recommended further examination by his colleague, Oley (July 1). Then Paul, head of Yamaguchi, met with us to point out the problem areas, and explain how they will repair it. The decision was made to repair the house first then fumigate because any new wood installed may have termites too.
Repairs began August 17 and finished August 28 and fumigation occurred over the Labor Day weekend (September 4-7). Oley and Jay of Yamaguchi did the main work of extracting the damaged areas and replacing it with new wood, installing new flooring, rebuilding supports, and supervising. Subcontractors did the work in the shower stall (demolishing, rebuilding, tarring, tiling, acid washing, and grouting), installing the new bathroom linoleum, and fumigating. Every one of them worked diligently during LA?s worst heat wave.
Noteworthy:
? Oley made sure that work on the bathroom stall was done correctly and even made the tilers come back
? Oley and Jay installed the cost-effective (aka cheapest) laminate flooring as if they were the highest grade hardwood. Their work was exceptional.
? The boss checking in on the progress and listening to our concerns
? The boss bringing lunch for Oley and Jay
"We are sorry your fumigation experience did not go as expected. There are some things that we cannot control during the fumigation, among them are the weather, some person(s) breaking into a building while it is being fumigated. Contrary to what you stated, break-ins during fumigations that we oversee do not happen that often. All the doors are locked during the fumigation, as well as secondary locks placed on the door(s) by the fumigators, so even if someone has a key, they cannot get in. From what I recall from our notes regarding the break-in during your fumigation, a pair of French doors were forced open. Upon discovery of the break-in, we sent someone out to your house immediately and contacted you. We waited onsite until you arrived and went over what we thought happened. Listed in the written instructions that we give to all of our clients that decide to have a fumigation done is the name of the fumigator and their telephone number. We also inform our clients in writing that our fumigations are subcontracted to another company and have our clients sign a Subcontract Authorization acknowledging this. In our instructions, we state that” …any valuables such as jewelry, money, silver, art objects, etc., or items that you deem to be valuable should be removed from the premises prior to the fumigation”. When something like this happens, we immediately contact the owner. We then meet with our fumigators and discuss what happened and what we can do better. While some parts of town appear to be more prone to break-ins than other, it is difficult for us to judge whether a building is more apt to be broken into or not. As I recall from walking around your house after the incident, we found much of your belongings in bags or suitcases just outside of your house. Though we have no way of knowing what was actually taken, it appeared that much of your belongings were left in your yard. That being said, again our apologies for what happened....again, we can only control what we do and not the actions of the environment and others. We (including our fumigators) try and treat every building as if we were fumigating our own. You or any person(s) reading this review and our response, are welcome to contact us for further discussion. Thank you."
After explaining my situation to the owner, Paul, he said he'd e-mail me a report and estimate as soon as possible. I received the report that afternoon and called him. Paul offered to schedule the treatment the very next day. The service technicians, (Ollie and Jay) were courteous, personable and on time. They not only treated the affected doorsill, but also injected chemicals into the ground as well, to kill/control the subterranean colony. The window sill was spot treated and the residue and smell dissipated after a few hours. My two indoor cats suffered no ill effects. I'm grateful to Yamaguchi Termite for being so accommodating and responsive to my deadline.
On the third visit he performed the chemical treatment on the area specified above to rid the property of the termite infestation and guaranteed the service for one year.
I found their service to be exemplary and professional; their price for the work seemed fair and reasonable.
I would definitely use them again as well as recommend them to others.
"First of all, our apologies for leaving a "messy bunch of white splotches on the wall". It is not our intent to leave a mess after a treatment and patching the wall. We will be contacting you to arrange to repatch the wall to your satisfaction. Please feel free to contact us directly if there are any additional problems. Thank you."
