First red flag, after barely looking at the pipe the plumber declared that it was probably not going to be covered by our warranty. I asked him to explain and he said it had clearly been broken for a long time. I asked him to show me what lead him to this conclusion and he said "I just know, you aren't a plumber so you don't know." It's true, I'm not a plumber, but I'm also not stupid. I saw that he was basically going to find anything he could to not have to complete this repair through the warranty company.
Second red flag, he asked how I'd known the pipe was broken. I explained that we'd had the hot and cold water pipes repiped when we bought the house, but not the drains. When they opened the wall to repipe the washer lines, they noticed the drain pipe was offset and suggested I look into it. After making a rude comment about the repipe work, he proceeded to tell me that I should have had the drains done and whatever company did the work did a poor job. I have nothing but glowing things to say about the repipe company, as did the city inspector who admired their work.
Final straw, after going to his van and sitting in our driveway for 30 minutes, he came back in and said the claim was denied since the pipe was previously broken. I again asked for his reasoning and he gave me none other that the "I'm a plumber line." Unsurprisingly, he offered to fix it himself for a "discounted rate" since he "wanted to do me a favor". I showed him the door.
Clearly, I'm most unhappy with our warranty company who refused the claim, but these plumbers are rude and it was a terrible customer service experience. I'd recommend avoiding them.
We called United Plumbing because we could hear water running down from above our condo unit, behind our drywall.
Some of this water was beginning to come through our drywall and ruin our laminate wood flooring.
The water was also apparently coming through all the way down to our parking garage and causing damage.
When the United Plumbing technicians came out, they cut two holes in our drywall to determine the cause of the water leak.
On that day they decided that the water was leaking from the p-trap connected to our washing machine. They replaced it and charged us $175, which we paid.
Just a couple days later we could hear the water again, and this time it was clearly coming from above us.
We called United Plumbing, and they inspected the units above us, and found the true cause of the leak- our 3rd floor neighbor's washing machine pipes were leaking, and spilling water into the drywall space whenever they ran a load of laundry.
United Plumbing fixed that leak.
However, they never reimbursed us for the initial incorrect diagnosis of the problem being our p-trap!
After some back and forth over the phone with one of their supervisors, we gave up.
We were ultimately made whole by submitting a claim for our water damaged laminate flooring through our homeowner's insurance.
They did so much damage to our house that was just un-necessary and TOTALLY due to lack of respect for other people?s property and laziness. We had purchased our home but waited for about a month to move in so we could do work on our house?one of those being re-piping. So they didn?t have furniture or anything else to work around but they still managed to knock tools through our hallway walls (which were newly painted by the sellers), crush air ducts in the attic next to where they were working, put tools and hoses onto our plants in our yard that was newly landscaped, leave cigarette buds EVERYWHERE outside and they did not put any covers to protect anything in our bathrooms. We had just put a new Toto toilet in ($600 Toto) and they put all of their tools on it as a work bench scratching it like no tomorrow?did the same on our newly glazed tub.
The head workman?s name was Greg and he was awful to work with. He argued about everything and refused to follow the contract and clean up the pipes that they were removing?instead he insisted that they should be able to leave them on the ground under the house. Also our pipes also bang so loud every time we use our dishwasher or our washing machine you can hear it over the TV and it sounds like someone it literally driving into the house!!
We called to talk to the owner Robert about this over and over and over until he FINALLY sent someone out 7 months later! And even though we specifically asked that it NOT be Greg, that's who he sent. And big surprise Greg did everything EXCEPT listen to the pipes?he talked on his phone and ran the sinks in the bathrooms every time we started a wash cycle. It was extremely frustrating!! Finally my husband just asked them to leave since they obviously weren't going to do anything! To this day our pipes still bang and we are now going to have to hire another plumber to come in and fix what we already paid these plumbers to do.
I opted to just repair both the faucet valves. The plumber finished the job in about 15 minutes, making his hourly rate a mind-boggling $500/hr. Best part -- now the faucet doesn't leak! Downside? Water doesn't come out of the faucet either. He claimed there was nothing he could do about it and the faucet would have to be replaced. Wow, I could have done this "repair" myself by just shutting off the valve. He cut me a discount for essentially breaking my sink -- just $80 instead of $125.Do yourself a favor: don't hire this company. If your home warranty dispatches him, hey guess what, you might as well just hire a plumber you trust, it's going to cost you the same thing after they fix what this guy can't.
