About us

I am a Los Angeles based landscape designer focusing on sustainable landscaping and the use of native and other drought tolerant plants for landscaping. I have been practicing for 10 years here, working on properties from Malibu to Pasadena, large and small projects. I offer a variety of services including landscape design plans, design consultation, horticulture consultation for sustainable landscape practice, and now offer full service installation through the landscape firm I recently partnered with. My approach is design and climate/conditions focused- seeking to understand the client's needs and the potential of the site's conditions in order to create the best design for a thriving landscape. Ulysses was extremely attentive to our concerns and desires. He is soft spoken and a delight to work with, professional and personable. Rather than tell us what we needed, Ulysses asked lots of questions about what we wanted and why, suggesting several options along the way, and offered several alternatives when budget issues arose. He brought examples of native plants in response to our questions about plant selection and was very helpful in determining what plants worked well with others and to create the landscape we desired. As in every project, there are bumps along the way. Ulysses has been steadfast in replacing plants that didn't do as well as expected and has made himself available to us throughout. We would definitely recommend hiring him.

Ulysses was a pleasure to work with and is a very talented designer. He created a sleek, modern hardscape design with an equally impressive planting scheme. He was very knowledgable about all type of plants, including California natives. In the end, the total cost was very reasonable for a job well done. I highly recommend him!

Ulysses has a great design sensibility and knowledge of California natives. He patiently listened to our ideas about our yard, which encompasses approx. 12,000 square feet. We focused on five areas, which he oversaw from design, plant selection to final planting.
95% of the plants survived the first year, and are thriving. To this day, Ulysses still continues to visit and check in on the garden. 
We are super pleased with the results, and do not hesitate to recommend him.

Overall, Ulysses is an excellent landscaper.  He is knowledgeable, creative and passionate about all things plants and landscape.  He's easy to work with and very accommodating.  He goes above and beyond and has excellent customer service.

He does get overly busy at times so from time to time, I have to wait to get his services.

But I definitely plan to have him assist me with my future landscape projects.

UA Botanicals did a phenomenal job making our landscaping more drought tolerant and native. Ulysses brought in lots of California natives to our yard, adding color and interest. He replanted some the existing plants in a location more appropriate for them. Ulysses gave a lot of thought and care to color, water needs and the overall design. We are very pleased with not only the appearance of out yard but that it requires less water and is native to the climate and soil. He has also worked with numerous families in our neighborhood, all of whom are very satisfied. We would definitely use his services in the future.

We wanted to remove our lawn and replace it with draught tolerant, CA native plants. More than half the cost was covered by the LA DWP rebate. Ulysses listened carefully to our requests and designed the placement of plants, pathways and a sitting area in the front yard. He oversaw the removal of the lawn by experts he hired and the installation of dg pathways and plant beds. He completed the job within the predicted time frame and with great care. We are very pleased with our new yard and the ongoing attention Ulysses will provide. We highly recommend his company.
