What I appreciate the most is Hadar's willingness to accommodate me (the switch plate) and to consider my finances (the kitchen fan). Everything was done well, clean up was good, and they were a pleasure to deal with. Hadar made a mistake in getting a fan motor which turned the wrong way, so i had to wait another week or two for them to return with the correct motor. If not for that, I'd give them a page of happiness. He is now my go-to electrician and the one i'd recommend to my neighbors.
"Thank you very much, we try our best."
We got in touch with a previous client of Hand R who had similar work done and who was very positive about the experience.
Hadar gave us a schedule for the work to be done: first day we would not have power but at the end of the day temporary connections would be already be in place . Then the second day they would do the stucco repair and finally the painting. Everything went according to the program. The first day a crew of two people (George and Oscar) did all the work and the second day Hadar and George completed the labeling of the circuit breakers as well as all the patching. During the first day an extra connection was done for the refrigerator so we did not have any problem with the frozen food (it was a very nice detail).
Finally, Hadar scheduled the inspection with the LA County Building and Safety Division. Since our house is in an unincorporated part of LA County near Westchester, the regulations are more strict. When the inspector came, he said that an extra grounding was necessary. It was done by Hadar for no extra charge. We passed the final inspection without problem.
The fnal schedule with Edison was also done by Hadar. Two workers of Edison came to make the final connection of the new panel to the general electrical power source.
Two extra projects were the installation of two new circuit breakers for oven and stove (before both appliances were in the same circuit, which caused several problems) as well as the installation of a surge protector for the oven whose electronic parts are very sensitive to power surges.
During the whole process (about one week) all communication was done via email (scheduling and invoices) and by phone with Hadar. We paid 1/3 at the beginning of the work, 1/3 at the completion and 1/3 when the LA County inspector gave the final aproval.
"Thank you for your kind words Member. We are glad to have helped!"
Mr. Rothstein arrived at 9:09 a.m., 39 minutes after he promised, and did not even greet me with a handshake, smile, or any sense of appreciation to have my business. This was ok, as I have had contractors with sort of cold personalities but did a good job and treated me fair, so I can deal with that. But my disappointment came when he went to the breaker box, flipped the switch and asked me for $65, saying he would normally charge $95, but he is giving me a break. I was shocked at how easily he made it look and when I told him that I had pushed it back and forth several times but it appeared to not have any and quot;gripand quot;, he replied that sometimes you have to just push harder to make sure that it has disengaged. I was really angry at MYSELF because the gentleman that I had cancelled the appointment with had told me that there was no charge if he didn't do the work. But knowing my sense of fairness, I usually give these kind of contractors something anyway because I feel that they should have something for their gas and for coming so far and I appreciate that kind of business ethics. However, when I reminded Mr. Rothstein that some of his reviews on angieslist report that he didn't charge them anything for coming out and giving THOROUGH estimates for entire house, he then replied that he and quot;had to come all the way from West L.A.and quot; I reminded him that his address is listed only a few blocks from my house and I often walk past his house on my morning walk (his stop at my house was LESS than 5 minutes). I told him also that I have several rentals close by and was putting off some other electrical work on them because I just had to pay property tax on my properties this month. He then said that he would lower the price to $50 today and give me a discount on my NEXT CALL.
I will NOT be calling him again because, while I do understand that some people charge for and quot;service calland quot; even if they do NOT do the work, they should at least have the courtesy to tell you up front. This man clearly seem to pick and choose who he wants to charge, so this kind of ethics makes me uncomfortable to call him again. As a woman of color, I have dealt with too much of this kind of treatment in my lifetime of almost 7 decades on this planet. I can't say if he discriminated against me because of my color, or because I'm a woman, or maybe because I am old, but for whatever the reason, I just want to be TREATED THE SAME AS THE OTHER PEOPLE who reported such pleasant experiences (not asking for special treatment). I think I was thorough enough over the phone in describing to him exactly what APPEARED to be the problem, but he never tried to help me on the phone by telling me that sometimes it can stick, or whatever (I was holding back because I didn't want to break anything). He could have earned lots of and quot;Good Willand quot; through me and my referrals, but maybe he doesn't need it. I credit my successes in life to GOING THE EXTRA MILE for my clients and it always comes back to me 100-fold, and ALL credit goes to God.
"I am very sorry that you feel the way you do Member. We spoke on the phone Thursday night making an appointment for Friday morning. I had to postpone my 9am job for that Friday morning in order to accommodate your emergency service call. That 9am appointment had to be moved from the 23rd to sometime after January 1st since the customer would be out of town. When you mention that I did “nothing,” I do not think that is a fair statement. I used my electrical expertise to reset a jammed breaker that you tried to reset but was unsuccessful. Even though the job time was short, I believe it is reasonable to expect compensation since I restored electricity to your residence, regardless of the fact that no breaker was replaced or no rewiring was needed. However, since the job was short I immediately gave you a $30 discount out of good will and then an additional $15 discount, making a total discount of almost 50%. I would think that an almost 50% discount is a fair compromise. Had I arrived at your residence and you had already fixed the problem or the problem was no longer an issue, there would have been charge. But since I did fix your power outage, I believe payment is deserved. In addition Member, I have done plenty of work for almost 20 years for all races and ages and was never accused of taking advantage of a colored or elderly person. I fixed your problem honestly. I did not lie to you or cheat you by selling electrical work that you did not need. I think this review was very harsh and undeserved."
"Thank you member for your positive report. We are glad to here that everything is working well and we look forward to working with you again."
