I checked out the job and at first glance told John it looked fine to me. There were a couple of small things I wanted that didn't get done, like fixing the one really bad sprinkler, because I wasn't there to remember and ask for this again. Although I mentioned it in the estimate, it wasn't written in and I forgot to ask about it prior to signing. I missed getting some clean up and trim I was going to ask for and have added to the bill, too. Oversight of what they did wouldd have made for a better experience.
When I looked more closely at the job, after telling John it looked okay, I saw the sprinkler and figured it was my fault for not informing him to write it in the contract. The sugar cane was very nicely removed and I couldn't even tell it had ever been there. The Elm was a bit overcut in my opinion but generally a satisfactory job. I'm no tree specialist, so perhaps that is what it needed. But on closer inspection of the Juniper, I was extremely unhappy with the result. It still hangs down so far at the fence gate that a tallish person has to duck to walk under it. Then I shook the tree and all the dead stuff inside rained down. On the walkway. I looked closely under and inside and saw they didn't thin out the dead stuff inside the tree. They just shaped the top my brother couldn't reach and didn't properly thin out the dead stuff inside. AND when I looked from another angle, I saw a gaping hole right in the front of the tree. Close inspection showed they loped off a major branch in the front of this bushy tree and there is now just a cut stump and no rounded foliage there. I didn't call them back to fix this, as I had numerous other jobs to finish before the open house that Saturday. I shook out the nasty spidery stuff they left and cleaned it up. That part of the service definitely rates an F-. Further found missed clean up of pieces of the Elm they left lying on top of the gazebo under the tree. B for clean up there. Had to get a ladder and clean that myself.
I believe I would have been happy with the work if they hadn't rushed the job and finished without me being there to approve and point out the problem areas. D for scheduling too fast! I think the key here is OVERSIGHT.....you need to be there to get thee job done to your satisfaction. Their work was satisfactory if I had been available to oversee it and communicate exactly what I wanted.
Communication was great until the end. Last minute reschedule on their end and not coming back the next day left me half unsatisfied. Then we agreed the would pick up the check (instead of me just mailing it) on Saturday morning. I waited until well after noon and no one called or showed up. They didn't call for days after when I was unable to respond.
So this was a mixed bag and the job ended up inconveniencing me more than it was worth. I'm trying another company to trim my palm tree and do clean up at my home. And the estimate is 1/3rd less than Gabriel's quoted me. When they finish the job I'll rate that tree service!
