Liz made the plans for a major remodel that I just completed?she was amazing. I started with a 1950?s ranch house in need of major repairs and updating. I wasn?t sure exactly what I wanted besides an enlarged master bedroom and a new master bathroom; Liz immediately came up with a plan, which has worked out beautifully and includes aspects that I never would have thought of, but absolutely love. Specifically, Liz suggested transforming the communal rooms (kitchen, dining room, living room) to create an open concept space. She also vaulted the ceilings and raised the roof at the back of the house, to create a 17ft windowed wall, which brings in more light and allow views of a hillside behind the house. This is a striking feature that makes us feel more in contact with the beautiful terrain around us. In this vein, Liz is very concerned about the environment and was extremely thoughtful in trying to design the home such that it would be ?green? and increase our appreciation of the natural environment around us. Beyond the vision she had for my house, she was excellent with the nuts and bolts of the project. Her design stuck to our construction budget. She expertly navigated our plans through the city arborist and plan check. She gave excellent advice on choosing between contractors, and worked well with the group we chose even though she had never worked with them before. Finally, what I appreciated most about working with Liz was that while she was absolutely receptive to my input and concerns, she was still strong in her opinions. She incorporated most of my ideas (and ALL that I insisted on), but was willing to tell me ?this is not your best idea, and I think you would regret doing it that way.? Further, when I thought that we could eliminate the 17ft windowed wall, she talked me out of it?I?m ecstatic she did, as this is now my favorite aspect of the home. Liz was perfectly calibrated between accepting my input, acting as a devil?s advocate to some of my nuttier ideas, and opening my mind to design visions that were outside my comfort zone.
