Came the day after I called. Job turned out to be a bit harder and muddy than ideal but finished up that morning (Friday before Christmas!). Good guys.

Our gas had been shutting off every couple of weeks because our seismic valve was extra-jumpy--it would trip when a big truck would drive by. The gas company said I should call a plumber, and my neighbor recommended Paxton at Carrera's Plumbing. Wow. We were so impressed. He was helpful over the phone, and showed up when he said he would. He crawled under the house to level the valve and noticed that the gas line fitting was deteriorated. In fact, when he touched it with his hand, the metal pipe broke off and we had a gas leak! Never fear, Paxton quickly shut off the gas and called the gas co, then waited with us for the service man to arrive. Then, even though he had a very busy morning, Pax stayed around to help the gas guy and make sure everything was working properly after the gas was reconnected. He was thorough, professional, friendly, and helpful. And he didn't even charge us for the service call. Will call him again the minute we have any other plumbing issues!

Wow!
After getting an obscene $1,220 estimate from highly rated Angies List Plumber, Southland Plumbing (see my review there), I called Craig's Plumbing, also highly rated.
Craig was swamped, and referred me to Paxton at Carrerra's Plumbing.
What a GREAT referral, (thanks Craig!).
Paxton returned my voicemail promptly, and was available as early as 6 AM the next morning.
He arrived promptly at 6 AM, evaluated the situation, listened to my analysis, and after a few minutes of testing the water flow between toilet, sink, and tub, determined where the blockage was.
He used his heavy duty snake to unclog the blockage, through the sink, as the overflow drain design on the tub prevented using it.
Voila! within two minutes, Paxton reeled in his snake with the guilty hairball, and testing the drain gave him the sound he said plumbers love to hear, the sucking sound of water going down the drain.
In addition, Pax, at no extra charge, checked my handiwork in the crawlspace, where I had detached the J-trap, and snaked myself, to no avail, to ensure there were no leaks. (there weren't, but he pointed out that there was a gap in the tub overflow drain where water was dripping.
Finally, and also at no charge, Paxton investigated the leak on my hot water handle of my pedestal sink. Unfortunately, the fixture had been attached to the sink prior to placing it against the wall, and Paxton was unabel to remove it without taking the entire sink out.
BOTTOM LINE... I have a new plumber...BEWARE Southland Plumbing...

My replacement faucet head and hose from Grohe arrived late morning. I called Carrera's about 12:30pm. Mr. Hassen said he would be able to come by between 2pm and 2:30pm. He arrive at exactly 2pm. He was very pleasant and professional. He immediately began removing the damaged hose from under the sink and installed the new unit. Afterwards he thoroughly checked our water pressure and found no issues and stated that we didn't need a device that had been recommended by a previous plumber. His frankness was refreshing. He also referred me to a store to find a soap dispenser nozzle that I haven't been able to locate.
I will definitely use him in the future when we have any plumbing or heating problems. I highly recommend him.

We last called him to set up an appointment. He happened to be free at that time and was over at our home in a matter of minutes, even though it was not regular work hours.

Imagine going a day without hot water (we're so spoiled). In any case, thanks to Paxton, we didn't have to. Called the number on his van that was in our neighborhood. He was over to our home shortly thereafter. After finishing his other job, he came back as promised with the water heater he had recommended and that we had agreed on. A short time thereafter, he and his assistant not only had replaced the old one, but he also made an additional trip back to brace it properly (and at minimum additional charge) for any possible earthquakes. A true professional as well as someone very easy to work with. Hopefully won't have to use him again any time soon for water heaters, but would certainly call for his other plumbing services should the need arise.
