California Landscapes
About us
GAYLE MARTIN - FOUNDER Gayle spent 10 years as an exhibited and collected artist, but it wasn’t until she moved into a rental house with a large, neglected garden that she realized her passion for garden design. Gayle discovered that she could turn her artist’s sensibility for texture, color and shape into a living canvas which became fish ponds and paths wandering through beds of growing color. Soon, friends and friends of friends were asking her to create their gardens too. She formalized her training at UCLA, obtaining a certificate in garden design and horticulture. In 1992, California Landscapes was founded and in 1997 she became a licensed landscape contractor in order to have more control over the quality of the implementation of her designs. With her experienced and dedicated landscape crew, Gayle works on projects of almost any size from refreshing small planting beds to creating highly specialized personal environments for large estates. Her custom designs are a culmination of the clients’ desires, providing innovative technical solutions to site conditions that are also highly functional based on Gayle's many years of artistic and practical construction experience. For more than five years, Gayle has been a frequent guest and has been awarded many projects on HGTV"S Landscaper’s Challenge. She has written gardening and landscape articles for the Santa Monica Mirror, the Palisadians Post and many other publications, and her projects have been featured in the Los Angeles Times and Pool and Spa magazine. "I was surprised to read this report. I thought (member name removed) and I had a good relationship. We made changes to her original design prepared by someone else as it was over planted. She agreed she did not have the space to comfortably fit that many plants. She was never charged for plants we did not install. I made several visits back to her house after we installed the project to check the irrigation, to follow up on plant concerns at her request and on two separate occasions, to show her husband, then her son how to use the controller. I have reached out to (member name removed) regarding this email, but have not heard back from her to date."
