Bruce Keller Electric

Our home is tenant occupied so we were not present for Bruce Keller Electric's inspection. However, after receiving the inspection report, we did take the technician's word that our sauna unit needed to be replaced. What was shocking to us was the price that was quoted. A web search for the same unit quoted by the company came up at $1,080. We questioned Bruce Keller Electric about what was driving their $5,999 quote so much above the sauna heater price and we were told it was the requirement for installation of a new circuit breaker. There is no reason a replacement circuit breaker should cost thousands of dollars and these sauna heaters are pretty much plug and play, with very minor wiring. In the end, we elected to hold off on sauna replacement by Bruce Keller Electric and instead waited to have my electrician father take a look at the unit when he was in town 6 weeks later. Turned out the sauna heater operated perfectly with no problem, no smell or smoke, and no sign of any prior electrical shorts or failure. After taking everything apart and inspecting the unit, the best my father could tell was that the tenant most likely poured too much water on the unit, shorting it out. It just needed some time to dry out and was perfectly fine after that.
We feel this company was just plain trying to pull a fast one on out of town owners. Either that, or they were not qualified to diagnose issues with or repair saunas and they didn't understand the simplicity of the task. I find it unacceptable that they quoted $5,999 for unnecessary work (that even if the heater had needed to be replaced, should have been possible for less than $2,000). I would not recommend using this company for sauna service and I suggest comparing price quotes before proceeding with any other type of electrical work.
