Contractor requested 50% to start and then stopped work at about 25% completion and said he needed an additional 20,000+ to complete the first phase. He did not know how to read floor plans or structural plans. We hired someone to evaluate the work completed and were told it was worth about $12,000. We were subsequently threatened with a lien by one of his subcontractors who was not paid, so we had to pay him $3000.00. The contractor subsequently replied to repeated requests for receipts supporting his claims of the costs incurred. He sent us handwritten receipt stubs including costs for the subcontractor who was not paid by him but by us.
