We give Belle Plastering our highest and heartiest recommendation. The owner Derrick Regnier and his expert stucco team helped put our house (a 1920’s Spanish Revival, which had been horribly neglected by the previous owners) back together in a professional, thorough, efficient, high quality manner consistent with its historical style but also up to current code – making it highly efficient and effective with respect to keeping moisture out, and insulating it from temperature fluctuations. When we initially retained Derrick, we intended only to sandblast and re-stucco. As it turned out, the concrete (beneath the stucco) was rotted, so we ended up taking the house down to the studs, and Belle Plastering essentially rebuilt the exterior – installing roof/window/foundation flashing, three layers of house wrap, mesh wire, and of course all of the concrete, stucco and sealer. They used the highest quality materials, including three kinds of house wrap (for breathability, water repellant and insulation properties) fine mesh wire (which a lot of people noticed and commented on, while it was going up), and high quality stucco. Derrick worked with us extensively to identify a color we’d like, producing a number of samples of colors and finishes. As far as the craftsmanship goes, they did a wonderful job making smooth lines and consistent texture, and did a particularly beautiful job recreating some of the arches and curves of the old Revival style. They also stucco’d our retaining walls (which were previously just painted cinderblocks) and also did our fireplace (indoors), which is just beautiful. We did a sand finish on the exterior and sprang for a flat finish for the fireplace, and are constantly marveling at the beautiful trowel work they did on the fireplace. Belle Plastering is a second-generation family business, and Derrick (who learned from his father) really knows the science behind stucco (chemical vs mechanical bonds, the differences in how various materials and finishes will perform, etc.). The team that worked on our house (Jose, Luis and Ramon) really knows the art of stuccoing as well. They work so very well together, and their work ethic and pride of craftsmanship really show in their work and in their collegial yet professional relationships with each other and with clients. They were always on time, worked very efficiently, and were enormously careful and respectful of our house (always took precautions to tarp and tape so as not to leave a mess). By the end of our project, they felt like family. We have recommended them to neighbors (and they are working on that house now), and hope that they’ll continue to work a great deal in our area, so that we can stay in touch (and you know, you can’t say that about a lot of contractors!). In summary, I just can’t recommend Belle Plastering more highly.
