"Dear [member name removed], You are absolutely right. We do not quote prices over the phone. The reason is simple. We repair problems rather than just change parts. Often, one part may not be the source of the actual problem. Since the actual problem is diagnoses by a technician who sees the machine we schedule a service call. Our service call is $60. Please understand no one wants to con you out of $60. However, we also do not at any time wish to give inaccurate quotes. I hope you were able to find you were looking for and apologize that we could not help."
On install day, they kept us up to date on their arrival time and did a great job installing our washer and dryer. They even balanced it properly so it no longer rattles like it did at our old place. However, the stove they delivered had a big dent in it. There was no pressure to take the stove as-is, so we called up Alex and he put in an order on a new, non-dented stove...
Once we successfully got the new stove delivered, the guys game again and installed it. They went over all the features and made sure it worked as it should. Despite the delay in getting a new stove (SInce they pick it up at the warehouse and we wanted THIS particular one), we were very happy with the service and install we recieved.
I had him take a look at my washer and then he gave me some tips on how to operate my dishwasher. He would have cleaned out the dryer exhaust duct himself, but mine is long and runs under the building. So he gave me the name of an air duct cleaning company which I subsequently hired and was pleased with. I ended up paying the original estimated price plus $30 extra for the belt.
"All our technicians are encouraged to repair your machine rather than to sell you a new one. The only reason they would offer for you to purchase a new one is if they think that it is not worth it to fix your existing machine. Everyone wants happy clients. Whether the parts and labor would be more expensive than to purchase a new one or it is simply not repairable, the technician makes a very minimal commission on selling you a new one. The technician makes more by repairing the machine. However, since they are penalized for not being able to repair properly, they are faced with a choice that is beneficial for you in the long run. I am sorry that you feel the way you do. I assure you we are in business to have clients come back to us which is why our service department is set up to give you the opportunity to make a choice. Our technicians make living repairing appliances not selling them. If your estimate does not have the breakdown of how much it would cost to repair your machine I will gladly refund you the $45."
The Provider response is fiction: their salesman selected the appliances for my tenants. He told me to my face that these appliances would receive rebates.
"Dear Member. During your visit in our showroom you reviewed different models. Some were eligible for rebates. Prior to going to court, and in court prior to the appeal we offered to upgrade to the models that were eligible for rebates. You refused. All non Absolute Appliances' rebates cannot be guranteed since they have their own terms and condition which were given to you prior to making the purchase. Furthermore, all utility company rebates always clearly state that they are subject to change."
