I went on line to get a plumber for a water heater problem (pilot lite wound not stay on). Angies List gave me a list of 4 plumbers. I started getting calls from them immediately. Mac (Gregory McDaniel) was the third call. Max did not charge just to come out and assess the problem. A couple of the others charged between $50 and $100 just to come out. More importantly to me, I had a good feeling with our telephone conversation. The water heater is still under warranty, but I did not want to use the company that I bought it from. They overcharged me in the first place and had bad reviews. In the case of the original purchase, shame on me, I did not do my due diligence first. Mac came out looked at the problem and got on the phone with American Standard regarding the problem with their water heater. He was put on hold by AS for a long time. Finally he got to a technician that confirmed my warranty and advised Mac what parts we needed for the repair. Mac had AS mail the parts directly to our house. He left - no charge, but gave me an estimate for the work at $190. The parts reached me in a couple of days. My wife called to set up an appointment and Mac came the next day right on time. The old part that needed to be replaced was hard to get out; (it was riveted to the tank). Mac’s original estimate figured he’d be about one hour on the repair and I also asked him to flush the tank for an extra $40. The part replacement took at least one and a half hours, next he did the flush and taught me how to do it myself in the future. His final price did not change. He charged $190 for the whole job. Mac is very friendly, he has over 25 years experience and just started his new business. I might be his first review on Angies List, but know I will not be the last. Mac is very competent and very honest. I felt good about talking to him. He was patient and detailed minded. I am so glad I found Mac and gave him a chance to do the work instead of a big company. We will use Mac for our future plumbing needs and gladly recommend to our friends and neighbors.
