I DON'T BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A BEN'S CONCRETE...THE PERSON REPERSENTING "BEN"CALLED Kalio Naa, he's the person who showed up for the quote and said Ben's Concrete was just the name of the business. I told him that I wanted a two foot high fence with a wrought iron fence on top. He gave me a quote for the block wall part and said he had someone who could do the top fence. O.K. So I gave him an $800 deposit (I know it was more than 10% but would cover the cost of materials). This is Angies List, these are suppose to be people you can trust. I even looked up this business on Yelp and he had great reviews.
Day one he shows up in an car with Utah Plates with one worker and unloads some tools from the trunk they were here to start digging the footings for the wall for the wall. I had 87 ft of old wood fence that had to come down first. So his worker starts dismantling the fence with a hammer. So I get out MY SAWZALL and cut the fence into section to help make things go faster. Then he instructs his helper to start removing the posts and start digging the footings and then leaves this young man to work by himself. I had to call Kalio 4 hours latter and explain that this guy really needed some help, so he shows up an hour latter and said that when the footings were done he needed another $1000, I said no way. There was nothing in the contract about draws or advances, I had already given a deposit for enough to cover the costs. The day ended with may 75% 0f the footings done. (If they both had worked the footings would have been done). Again he asked for more money and I told him that IF the footings were pored with the rebar tomorrow I would advance him a little more money.
Day two. Kalio and his worker showed up at 8:30 in the car, no concrete, no rebar. His worker said he wanted to go to the store across the street to get a soda. He never returned. Kalio in 4 hours Almost finished digging the footings. I asked about the mixer and he said he would have to rent a truck and the mixer. So I said fine...You need a credit card to rent equipment so just charge the materials and I will pay the balance when the job is completed. He left.
The End...for now...I believe this guy is a con artist and never intended to finish the job, So right now I have a very expensive hole and a huge mess to clean up.
THE RED FLAGS=1) There was no mention of Kalio Naa in the reviews 2) he asked for more than a 10% deposit 3)continually asking for more money 4)the one who was suppose to do the wrought iron never call or showed up, this was part of the deal.
Day 6...Finally done. Wall is in the wrong place...not on property line as was discussed. Left broken concrete, my back yard is a total disaster, I was just quoted $500 to clean-up...KALIO NAA dba BEN'S CONCRETE...Really bad contractor
