Jose knew from the start that there would be much prep work
with several new doors, texturing two walls, texturing three ceilings, primer
paint new crown moldings, baseboards, and casings for the new doors and apply
two coats of paint.
On the first day, he wasted no time by complaining to my
husband how much work prepping the ceiling was, and that he would need another
$100 for work, and that he had no idea how much labor it was going to
take?? The following days got worse and
he continued to try and weasel us for more money as he was working in each
room. He also dickered with my husband
on how he would not paint the rest of dining area for 1 foot on a drywall that
led into the kitchen. We had excluded
the kitchen for paint work, so he was not going to do anything extra. Not even one foot. It did not make any sense that he refused to
paint the rest of the wall to even out the color. He actually thought he would get away with
this.
My husband had to cancel a business trip, because If I had
been left alone, he would have cheated me left and right. He also had issues with me being a woman, and
did not respect me at all. He treated me like dirt by ignoring me, refused to
even look at me. Every time I would try
to talk to him or to ask him a question, he would just walk away. I had to get my husband involved so many times
to speak on my behalf, it was like dealing with a 5 year old having a temper
tantrum.
On the third day and while Jose was working on the bedroom
that needed two walls to be prepped and textured. I noticed he only did one
wall and told me he would not do the other wall as we had agreed on. After he told me "NO" three times,
Jose ran out of the house yelling "NO" and by the time he got to his
car, he said he was going to quit. At
that point, I told him to go ahead quit, and take your equipment and leave
immediately.
It took my husband over an hour to calm him down and
insisted we had a contract and that he needed to do exactly as directed or we
would take him to court for abandonment and shoddy work.
When we interviewed Jose for the job, he told us he was
going to supply us with a three man crew, but it only was two men, and some of
their work was sloppy, poor job of cleaning up each day, and he had the gall to
store his smelly chemicals of paint, thinners, brushes, with an industrial
vacuum and ladders in the spare bedroom for first three days. We told him to use our garage for storage
during his absence.
Oddly enough; the first day and a Friday, I had offered him
our garage for safe keeping, and he said "no thank you, not
necessary". I said, "Ok"
but I wasn't sure where he was going to store it all and I thought he would
store it in his van. After he left the
premises, I noticed he left it intentionally in one of the bedrooms, and he
left all the doors off so we could smell it for hours and hours. I found three
oily type stains on my carpet, and he denied his stuff did the damage on the
carpet.
I had a terrible headache for the first three days, and with
Jose's bad attitude and bad business ethics, I was beside myself for the entire
9 days they were here.
They also did not apply a second coat in the garage 1/2
bath. They used the rest of that paint
?Vanilla Ice Cream? by Benjamin Moore and applied the last of that paint color
in a built-in shelf in a Den that does not match with the ceiling or brick wall
was painted in ?Bavarian Cream?. He was
instructed on paper to use ?Bavarian Cream? color for the shelf.
After the fiasco on the two textured bedroom walls, Jose
told my husband he would not have anything to do with me, and he refused to
look at me nor would he answer my questions.
He did not do the walls as I originally ask him to apply joint compound,
but instead he made the decision to texture the two walls.
He over textured one wall, and under
textured the second wall in the same room.
It?s noticeable and we?re extremely disappointed.
Now I have to hire another painting contractor to fix or
repair what he was unable to do.
Jose is an unprofessional businessman. He?s a s***** and a creep.
If you ever come across a man named Jose Rodriguez and wants
to paint your house? just say "No
Way Jose" and dump him like a "Hot Potato" and run.
