Paul (owner of Mikita Construction) is everything you want in a contractor. I hired him to build a 640 sq Ft addition/attached -in-law quarters that will include a fairly large kitchen expansion and remodel.
After our initial consultation with Paul, we received a quote that was rather high. After some clarification, Paul gave us a high quote based on a lot of 'unknowns'. We didn't have any specifics selected prior to his consultation: appliances, electrical fixtures, paint, flooring etc etc... so Paul gave us a high quote that would naturally be adjusted lower as the project developed and evolved depending on material that we selected. It should be noted that Paul was up front that his specialty is "framing" and that we hired him to be the project manager for the project - which means that he was/is in charge of hiring sub contractors that will work under his supervision for what he hires them for.
Paul is honest and forthright in his approach and takes accountability if there are incident(s) that go wrong. We only had one incident involving bad weather which resulted in some unfortunate and unexpected material damage - without issue Paul stepped up and addressed the issue to our complete satisfaction. Additionally, my project required City inspections and, to my knowledge, he passed every inspection 1st time around.
Our project is finally completed, my families' only frustration was the natural lengthy time period it took for project completion - 3-4 months. Paul was completely aware of the frustration and did his absolute best to move things along. Mikita Construction has a Facebook page that you can view his work from and he also comes ready and prepared with references.
Throughout the project we added on many 'odds and ends' - extra lighting, concrete walk-ways as well as fixing some dry-wrought issues that were pre-existing. All of those things had me concerned about our over all budget. Paul was aware of my concerns and ensured me we would be on budget - which he met. My wife and I have already made plans for additional renovation in the future and FULLY intend to hire Paul to do the work.
One of my biggest concerns before starting this project was hiring a bad contractor. I am so happy to be able to refer Paul as an AWESOME contractor. If I had questions, issues, concerns... Paul was always willing to listen, educate, help, come up with solutions and put the customer at ease. Lastly, there were a number of different sub contractors that were involved on my project. I'm incredibly happy that I hired Paul to hire and manage the sub contractors, I simply wouldnt have been able to do it.
This is one happy and completely satisfied customer.
"A "B" for price?? I charged you $45.00/ hour plus materials which were $147.00. Not to mention I went and got materials twice! The first time I came by on our original start day/time .Nobody answered the door or the phone! You were charged a more than fair price for the work. Before I left I asked you like I always do with my customers If they liked the job and were satisfied. You had an issue with 2 boards that were 1/8 " to long and I cut them before I finished! Not to mention the caulking I did which was not in our original scope of work. I always try my hardest to have satisfied customers and if you had a problem with the quality or price just ask me . I will gladly explain it to you."
I would hire Mikita Construction in a heart beat for our next project. Very conscientious!
Paul Makita was very friendly, courteous and informative. He had many useful suggestions and tried very hard to make necessary concessions for my handicaps. He may have underestimated the time necessary to complete all the work but held to his estimated price. I'm very satisfied with the quality and looks of the work . After the job was complete he did a good cleanup and disposal of old and torn out material. I would not hesitate to use him again for any remodeling or construction project.
I called Mikita Construction and spoke to Paul, the owner. Paul assured me he would take care of the project from beginning to end. I was so relieved! He came out and walked through the project with me, gave me ideas on how we could fix the items in need of repair, and gave me a written estimate. He gave me a competitive price and he explained how long it would take.
We started the project in January and finished Februrary 3rd. Paul stayed in contact with me throughout the project and was always available for questions. The project came in at the price he quoted. There wasn't any surprises!!
I can't say enough good things about the experience I have had with Mikita Construction. I would recommend them to anyone. In fact, I did! My mom is currently using Paul for a bathroom remodel and it looks great! I know its hard to find good, reliable contractors out there. Give Paul a call, you won't regret it!
Signed,
A very happy homeowner
