From our experience talking to several moving companies, we learned something everyone should keep in mind when hiring a moving. While some movers may be a bit faster or slower than others, the number of person-hours required for a move depends mostly on how much stuff there is to move and pack and distance from the truck to the front doors). In terms of price, compare companies on their hourly rate and the size crew not their total estimate. An estimate that's 20% lower because they think it will take 2/3 the time, is actually MORE expensive. Also, unless you're moving a 2-bedroom apartment or smaller, it's worthwhile to pay for a larger crew to do things faster. They gave us an estimate for the work. They were polite and responsive. However their hourly rate was a bit higher than others. They quoted us the same for 4 men and 2 trucks as other companies quotes for 6 men and 2 trucks. Given that the work would have taken longer and thus cost us more, we opted for another moving company. They might be better for smaller moves. We were concerned that they thought they could do the move with only 4 men when others wanted to send 6.

Once nice thing about Two Men and a Truck is that they are easy to schedule because each move has a dedicated truck, but in the future, I would only use them if I packed my belongings myself. Overall, they did a good job loading and unloading my things, and managed some of my more unwieldy furniture (U-shaped office desk, sleeper-sofa, etc., quite well, but they did a sub-par job of packing my things.
I have used full-service long-distance movers in the past, and I know what experienced, professional packers are capable of. These packers did not move quickly, were inefficient, and were not thorough. They were inconsistent in marking my boxes -- many are unmarked so there is no way to know what is inside. What should have taken them 4 or 5 hours took them all day (I was charged by the hour), and I did quite a lot of the packing myself to help out. Furthermore, the loaders that arrived the next day to load the truck complained that the packers did not properly or adequately wrap my furniture, causing the padding to slip off one of my heavier items as they were maneuvering it down the stairs (which has a landing half-way down with a U-turn in the stairway). They proceeded to double-wrap remaining items so that didn't happen again, but this slowed them down considerably. Also, because the packers were not thorough, there was still a lot of scavenging for final items after the boxes and furniture were packed. Instead of an expected 2 or three hour load, it took over 4 hours.
The movers did some things exceptionally well, and I like their overall business model of using smaller trucks dedicated to individual moves. I'm not aware of any other company that can agree in advance to make a delivery on a specified date for a long-haul move. Things they did well was the initial consultation (although the lady underestimated the number of boxes I would need by about 10, and she is unfortunately no longer with Two Men), handling my fragile and bulky/heavy items, they were generally punctual and responsive. Since it's a small business, I could call their office and get immediate assistance (Robyn Rocks!).

They provided a pre-wrap and dis-assemble on the day before the move. On moving day, they were on time, friendly, very professional, extremely courteous, very careful and did a great job. They went above and beyond our expectations. They were also the only company that offered a same day delivery on a 200 mile trip with no extra charge and they came through perfectly. I would recommend them highly.

This company is fantastic! While it was more costly than my daughter and I anticipated, it was worry free, well communicated and expedient! I think very highly of Mark, the owner and his staff. While my daughter moved into her first apartment after accepting her first job as a teacher and didn't have all that much furniture, the move required a pick up of a sofa from Livermore, then to Brentwood, then to Foster City. She had a huge sofa (7ft), a wooden bed frame, a portable, gas fireplace of which would not fit in the apartment building elevator, and she was on the third floor (HOLY COW!). The two men that loaded and unloaded were fantastic and friendly. They were awesome in bringing the things up the three floors and showed care in moving the sofa, in particular, into the tiny unit. It was later in the afternoon, and, of course, it was an extremely HOT day in Brentwood. My daughter is finishing up her Masters Education, and had class that day, so the pick up was at 1:00 in Livermore, and about 2:30 here in Brentwood. I wish I was a rich woman, these guys deserved a better tip than I was able to provide. Their attitude was positive, helpful, communicative, and gave advice and a free hand in putting things together.
Mark, the owner, and I had an uplifting conversation, and anyone looking for someone who of course is making a living, but also believes in the power of paying it forward, and showing kindness should choose Two Men and a Truck from Livermore. Let me just say that I was feeling very down about many things, mainly my daughter moving on in her own life and Mark lifted me through our conversation. As a teacher, it was uplifting to hear of a family that believes in the efforts and recognizes many things about the human condition and caring for our children (all kids, kind of the attitude of it taking a village), he literally brought tears to my eyes! He made sure I had his contact information and offered to contribute materials to my classroom when school resumes, I am so impressed in his willingness to help kids that when I sell this house (hopefully within the next couple of years) I will be happy to hire this company to help me move! BRAVO, Two Men and a Truck, I am happy to have made contact with you, and as I said during our conversation, thank you for lifting me, I hope to take that and offer the same to someone maybe feeling a little low in their life.
Another important thing to add to my experience is to let those of you out there know that Mark and his business are also contracting to help single parents make the move to independence after leaving terrible situations and starting anew. That alone, as a person with first hand knowledge of how difficult that can be, is a strong reason to recommend this company, they are in in to make a living, but they are also standing up to make a difference.
Thank YOU, Mark, and blessings to you and your success in this business, it was more than a pleasure, I am lifted when I think of your words the day my daughter moved out! It may be our goal as parents, but it still has a twang of pain, our kids are our greatest contribution to this world!

They were punctual, they actually had a system for loading. They even shrink wrapped everything, and were able to fill the truck to the top.
