"Hello [member name removed] Thank you for the rewiew ! Sincerely Mario Sosa"
Overall grade = B. They have a great showroom and selection of granite. Customer service is spotty. Workmanship was good.
SOSA bid $9,111 for the job of replacing our tile kitchen countertops and island surface with granite, and we paid a deposit; the work was then scheduled. The installers did not show up at the appointed date - the scheduler told us that there was a computer glitch and that the date was scheduled as promised but not saved into their data base, therefore they did not show up and it took over a week to reschedule them, which was annoying since we had emptied all of the kitchen cabinets so they could do the work without interference, and stuff was piled up throughout the house. The scheduler was arrogant about what they admitted was their error and did nothing to expedite the work - simply added us to the end of their list of upcoming jobs. This appears to be a company that was handed down by a senior person to be taken over by younger family members and those family members have job security so they don't care much about customer service - no fear of being fired if you own a piece of the company! When the job was finally completed, the workmanship was good and we were happy with the job, and consider the price to be a good value for the work received. The installation team did a good job measuring to define the job, installing the granite, doing the plumbing to install the sink, and in the process repaired one cabinet drawer that had been broken previously due to aging/wear& tear (prior to their involvement - not caused by SOSA).
If they had shown up when promised, or at least made significant effort to reschedule with some priority, their grade would have been "A".
"Hello (removed member name) First I would like to thank you for your business & second for the great review, I apologize for the disconnect between you & Jr. I also am a family member (Daughter to the owner) this disappointed me as our family takes pride in this company and sometimes have a lot on our plate. I assure you if you ever need any more work done Please allow me a chance to make up the time you lost on this project Thank you Marissa Sosa 925-373-7675 x101 [email protected]"
On previous occasions, the workers have been punctual. This time, however, the installation crew did not show up on two separate, scheduled occasions. Seemed to be serious communication problems. We've never had a problem with them before.
Hope that this is just an aberration.
Before the slab could be fabricated into the countertop, a template had to be prepared. Measurements had to be taken for the template, but first my contractor had to install the plywood base for the countertop and put in my new kitchen sink. (He had previously installed new kitchen cabinets that I ordered from a different supplier.) With the assistance of my contractor, Sosa's measurement people came out to my house to take the measurements for the template. I had to wait about 2 weeks for the countertop to be complete. An install date was reserved, and their install team showed up with the finished countertop on the date. One minor problem did occur during the install: The opening in the granite countertop for the kitchen sink was 1/2 in. off the mark, but my contractor who was standing by to help, was able to quickly remove the sink, trim the hole and reinstall the sink with only about a 45 min. delay. I'm not sure if the miss-measurement was the fault of Sosa's measurement people so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Either way, my contractor quickly solved the problem. After the granite countertop install, the crew put a protective coating on the surface.
I'm very pleased with the quality of the granite, and I was impressed with the staff's friendliness and helpfulness. I'd recommend Sosa Granite & Marble to others, and my contractor who had not previously worked with them, said he'd also recommend them to his clients.
Finally, The day they arrived to do the "one day tear out and install" went well - though it was a long day at just over 13-hours. It should be noted here that when Sosa states they do a "one day tear out and install", they fail to mention, it does include tearing out your old back splash, but does NOT include installing the back splash - that came just over a month later. In the mean time, my kitchen walls had holes in them and broken and exposed drywall. Also, most of the electrical outlets were rendered useless (when Sosa tore out the old back splash, the outlets were exposed - meaning live electric was exposed). Sosa's favorite thing was to call in late afternoon to schedule for the next morning even though I told them I needed at least a days notice (like them, I do work for a living too). The cabinet they custom built scored no better than a C+ - it was made of wood and resembled the one they replaced. Getting something scheduled was worse than pulling teeth. However, once the workers arrived, it was smooth sailing. I felt bad for the person who came to install the back splash. He was not told the drywall in my kitchen was destroyed by the crew who did the tear out a month before - so he was not prepared (aka add another day to the work). In the end, my back splash looked very good. It would have looked better is Soso had given the installer enough material. Part of the back splash used some glass tiles that came on 12" x 12" sheets - they sent him with the exact amount needed. Instead, the installer had to piece things together - not only adding a lot of time to his labor, but it also shows where the pattern changes. The sheets of glass cost about $12.00 each - If they had sent 2-more sheets ($24.00 in materials) they would have saved at least 2-hours of labor and provided an even nicer looking back slash.
To sum it up. It took about a month after the sale to get the counter top installed. It then took just over a month to get the back splash installed. I lost track of the total time it took to actually get a completed cabinet. I called to complain about the cabinet and some of the damage done during the work they did. Mario Sr actually came to look at the job and asked me "where I thought I could get this work done at the price he gave me"? Really?? He refunded me the money the "contract" charged for the cabinet, but reminded me that the "contract" stated that damage may occur while they are doing the work and the home owner is responsible for any damage they do.
The contract also allows Sosa to charge your credit card when Sosa chooses - there is NO hold back for completion of the job. When Sosa says that portion of the job has been completed (even if not to the buyers satisfaction) you get charged.
The prices and selection at Sosa were great - the service and communication were poor at best.
NOW, the seams in my granite are separating - so wide you can stick 2 dollar bills in the seam. It has also raised on one side of those seams enough that it will "catch" something like a glass if you drag it across the seam.
While installing the stone they tripped an electric box and left a tool on, so when the electricity when back on the cutting tool cut the surface of countertop. Also, they cut the sink too big. I will never use them again. They made it seem like everything was our fault.
