They found where leak was, repaired the area. Took two roofers a little over half a day. Showed me why it happened and why it won't leak after they repaired it.

After initial call, took a few days to hear back. They came out and assessed the situation. Sent estimate via email the next day. Came the following week to do the work. After a couple of rain storms, no leaks observed. Very satisfied with work and service.

It went very well. They came on time and they worked well. They cleaned up after themselves. Their price was higher than the other estimates we got. They were the highest but we liked their product and we liked the transferable warranty on the roof. So if we sell our house, it’s transferable to the next owner if we used all of their recommended products on it so we did and I’m sure that’s the reason why it’s a little more expensive. It looks great and their work was professional and was done in a timely manner. They cleaned up and we had some extra things done to improve our greenness. We had additional insulation added in our attic and they could just do it from the roof which made it so much easier than going up through the opening of the attic. They were very careful to do things to code. They had their inspector came out and inspected the roof and it was his inspection that finalized the fact that our warranty is now transferable to the next owners and we think that will be a great point when we sell our house.

We obtained three bids, as is our custom, and Rob made the presentation for Roofmax. He was very professional and knowledgeable regarding the type of roof that we wanted. He also explained each step of the roofing process and answered all of our questions. We were impressed with the fact that Roofmax is a certified elite roofer for GAF and because of that, the warranty on both the product and the labor were much better than the other two bidders could provide. The warranty is transferable for the first 20 years. The other roofing companies could not provide this aspect of the warranty even if GAF products were used. Although the Roofmax bid was not the lowest received, we feel it offered the best value for our money. The Roofmax crew was prompt, hard working, experienced, and cleaned up at the end of every day.

Very professional service and advice.
Did a thorough inspection and made detail recommendations on plan forward and options available.
Even found problems with HVAC that needed to be solved - by other contractor.
Took photos before and after the job was done and this helped understand what the problems were and that they were fixed.
Job was done fast and on budget.
Very happy with job done and service.

The time had finally come around for the house roof to be re-done completely... Patching just was not going to do, on this occasion.
After receiving quotes from a number of local companies I decided to go with ROOFMAX.
ROOFMAX was one of the few companies that actually showed up to evaluate the repair work required for my house roof. However, ROOFMAX were the only company to send a representative to sit down with me and explain in detail, exactly what work needed doing, and the reason for the work required. The ROOFMAX quotation also explained the various options open to me in terms of roofing materials available... A 'Good', 'Better' and 'Best' options, if you will.
Rob Profit was the ROOFMAX employee that did the quotation and explanation of same afterwards. There was no hard sell as I initially anticipated there might be. Rob answered all my questions and explained information in laymans terms so that I was able to understand the situation exactly. I honestly feel Rob simply wanted me to be comfortable with the quotation and to ensure I understood what the quotation said.
Some of the eves on the house had also sustained some dry-rot damage. The ROOFMAX quotation was split out into the cost of the re-roof and the repairs required to get rid of the dry-rot. It was also clearly explained to me that if further dry-rot was to be found (after the old roofing tiles were lifted) this would be a separate charge. The quotation clearly stated the hourly labor rate for such work, and of course any materials used would be added too, but none of this work would be carried out without initial consultation with me. It was also explained to me that the cost of any work permit and city inspection would be separate too. Some of the quotes received from other companies were a bit vague on these areas.
So it was really the way in which Rob took time out to explain the quotation to me that started to sway my decision to go with ROOFMAX. However, in addition to the ROOFMAX workmanship warranty, came the (just as important) materials warranty from the actual manufacturer. This was something that none of the other companies quotations included. The manufacturer sends out their own inspectors to examine the new roof and to ensure that ROOFMAX have done the installation work to their standards. The manufacturer will only issue their warranty if they are happy with the work that ROOFMAX has done. Anything that the manufacturer is not happy with, means that ROOFMAX will have to put it right, if they want to stay on the manufacturer's roster of recommended roofing companies.
ROOFMAX certainly did not provide the cheapest quotation, but for me, the additional manufacturer's warranty that came with their offer, and the general 'peace of mind' feeling that I had (and have) were (and are) the two decision factors for me.
This initial quote and acceptance thereof, was done on December 22nd and 23rd, respectively.
By the end of the first week in January, ROOFMAX notified me that the re-roofing work was scheduled in for January 28th.
Rob Profit asked to visit with me so that he could introduce the project manager who would be overseeing the work carried out on my house. This meeting happened on January 14th and it was here that they requested to start two days before January 28th to work on on the dry-rot repairs.
And in deed, during those first two days, ROOFMAX had eradicated all the dry-rot damage.
Despite having a fairly large house to contend with, the old roofing materials were completely removed by lunchtime on January 28th. And work began to start laying the new roofing materials. By close of play on 28th January, the entire roof of my house had a covering of 'underlay'.
The next day saw each skylight removed and then made weatherproof with various roofing paraphenalia. Same attention was applied to any flues exiting the roof space. All new guttering and down-pipes were installed. Work also started on laying the roofing tiles and a venting ridge along the very top of the roof.
The entire re-roofing project was completed mid-afternoon on January 30th.
AMAZING STUFF !!
All work carried out quickly, efficiently and in a very professional manner.
I highly recommend ROOFMAX.

RoofMax was very professsional. They completed our new roof in just 3 Days. They cleaned up after they were done. Provided pictures of inside the roof to show the repairs they made. Overall very pleased with the Job.

The salesperson came to the house took measurements and explained in detail the job they would do. They came back in a few days with a detailed estimate/contract for my acceptance. After I agreed they set a start date. They also took care of getting the building permit and setting up the inspections.
They started on time and worked three straight days to complete the job. I was able to be home throughout and they showed me each step of the operation.

Was professional from the very start with detailed reports and estimates of what was to be done, not just a number written on a piece of paper! Felt I was kept in the loop on what was going on. Work was started and completed quickly and with little inconvenience to our home. Love the solar tubes in kitchen-no need to turn on the lights during the day.

They were very professional. They will guarantee the roof for 50 years once the roof is inspected. They were a little pricey, but they have the best guarantee. The quality is good. They came early to work. I would recommend them.

Repair group had 5 hour earlier, no noise until right. Later, rest of crew (8) start working. Roof covered in case of showers. Job was finished next day. Cleanup rated ok, but should have used a magnet for nails!

Overall, I got a roof that I think will perform well. There were some bumps in the road on damage beyond what could be evaluated before the roof was removed. However, after some discussion, the issues were resolved. I think the warranty and contracts are very good. While more expensive, with this contractor the GAF warranty is an additional backstop in the event of a problem.

Roofmax Evaluation: Working with Roofmax was a unique experience, and Roofmax exceeded my expectations. I would, without hesitation, recommend Roofmax with the highest level of confidence. They have the knowledge, experience, credentials, resources, and craftsman to provide professional roofing products and services commensurate with the roofing manufacturer's, and roofing industries, highest standards. Roofmax demonstrated overall, a sincere commitment to dependable customer service and satisfaction, and represented themselves with honesty and integrity at every level, from first contact to final closeout. Roofmax executed the work with well organized and coordinated teams of project consultants, managers, craftsman, and laborers to complete each phase of the work (material delivery, tear-off, removal, carpentry, roofing, sheet metal, painting, and clean-up) quickly, correctly, and efficiently. Roofmax worked closely Home Owner to coordinate work by Owner, and provided timely professional advice that helped save Owner additional construction costs. Additional services where kept to minimum, and billed fairly. Minor corrective work was promptly corrected by Roofmax after final inspection. Roofmax offered discounts and competitive financing. Excellent company, excellent workmanship. Thanks Roofmax!

We have a leak in the upstairs soffit (gable-style window). Dean was very professional when he came to check it out. He climbed upon the roof and said that there is no problem with the window as it was probably the wind blowing the rain in sideways. He did, however, find some other areas that did need repair and he photographed each of them. This was on June 20 and we (perhaps stupidly) signed the papers because it looked as if those repairs needed to be made. They called two weeks later and set up July 11 as the work date. They were to be here between 11am and 1pm. We waited and waited and gave them the benefit of the doubt by allowing them to be late. I finally called them at 3pm and they said they'd be there shortly. They finally came at 6:30pm and were finished by 7:45pm. I really have no way to know if that work really needed to be done or if it WAS actually done , but I do know that there's no way it should have cost what it did! That was way too much to spend on some flashing and shingles and less than 2 hours of work!

Get them to promise to repaint any bare areas. I bought the paint, they repainted all the gables and fascias. House looks great.

They did everything they said they would do. They turned up on time and, subject to some rain delays, finished on time. They cleaned up every day and the roof appears to be performing well. They communicated well and met our expectations. They weren't the highest price or the lowest, but it was a large complicated roof and their price reflected that. We chose them because they were very professional and convinced us in the consultation that they do everything strictly in accordance to the manufacturers specifications and an inspection will be made by a representative from the manufacturer to make sure the roof is in compliance. Overall, a very good experience and I highly recommend Roofmax.

They did a good job and I would not hesitate to work with them again. They were a few problems but they handled them quickly and professionally. I was glad that they took care of the small problems I had. They were on the pricey side but I think they did a good job. It was more than what I was expecting.

The people from Roofmax gave us a reasonable price on everything. They explained the technicality of the roofing. They were willing to answer my questions. There was a problem which did not have anything to do with them but, precipitated by something that they did. They took note of it and came out immediately & solved the problem. The manager sent out a whole crew of people who talked to me and assured that everything would be taken care of. They treated us very well but, they did not foresee what they did.

I got some different estimates. They were great. It rained the day they finished. They were upfront with all their costs and there were no surprises. The work they did was very, very good. I really liked the crew. They were very responsive. There were a couple of hiccups and they fixed everything right away. They are not going to be the cheapest estimate out there but I think it is a fair price. The quality was outstanding and I don't think I could have gotten a better roof. They were very responsive and kept every appointment with me. They are at the top of their field as far as professionalism. The original roof had been done very shoddily and it was a disaster.

This is an update to my earlier posting. I added what has been corrected and/or responded to after my first post on Angie's. After my post, Roofmax called and tried to make good on several issues. I updated my report to reflect this as I felt they made a good faith effort to remedy certain issues. I have to give credit to one of their employees Raul for taking the time to sit down and speak with me. The roof, gutters, and drains were well done apart from a few nails that were pushed too far through the plywood above my front door, which they tapped up. In fact, if a roof was the sole thing you want from them, they did a great job. I did have to remind them to install the leaf guard on the gutters, but it got done the same day. They forgot to install the 3 vents in the roof that I needed for the bathroom even after I reminded them several times so they had to break the roof after it was completed and the vents were very loud. After my post, they came back and installed upgraded vents. Raul explained to me that in most cases with a shingle roof it is easier to leave the vent work to last as it lets them complete the roof quicker and has no effect on the quality of the work. He promised me next time he runs in this issue, he will explain this clearly ahead of time to the customer. I take him for his word on this. I asked, Ron, the person who installed the GFIs and bathroom vents, if he was a licensed electrician and if they had pulled the permits. I had red flags as he was also the person painting my house and he had already gotten the wrong type of vents for my bathrooms. He said he was and that he would check on the permits. It turned out, he was not and they had no permits for this. He installed the load and neutral backwards on the GFIs and then he left for the weekend without testing. I called and he said he would come back later that night to fix them but he did not. I called his supervisor Raul and they sent a licensed electrician and pulled the permits on the following Monday leaving my family with no working outlets in our kitchen or bathrooms over the weekend. After my post, Raul came and sincerely apologized for this, he told me that Ron should not have said what he said and that GFI outlet replacement does not usually require permits in most cities, though it was in Benicia. I take him for his word on this. The painting was good though I had to point out several places where they had not primed the Spackle work or put the paint on too thin and they had to correct it. Their cuts lines were more wavy that I would like but tolerable. Their texturing was acceptable. The sky light window was installed well, though Raul made them pull it out once to set it back further. I noticed some plastic caps were missing on some of the screw holes, but I let it go. As it was Ron called and came by a few days later saying they arrived separately from the window and put them in. They installed vents for the dryer and down draft in the kitchen but I had to have them replace the duct tape with foil. I had to laugh when they said these ducts did not get that hot. They can get hotter than most heating ducts and the reason you do not use duct tape is that with age its turns to dust. Still I have to admit most contractors still use the stuff. I had an issue with the garage ceiling, I had asked that it be returned to its original condition after they took it down to for plumbing work and to spray copper. Their sales person took that and created several steps which he put in the work order. He forgot to add repainting it. Raul went ahead and had them texture and primed the ceiling for me after I complained about this. Other things of note, most of their workers only spoke Spanish and because I look very Anglo they did not know I could understand them. They noticed our rainbow flag outside our house and a few of them used some colorful terms to explain it to one their coworkers who asked what it meant, nothing outright rude but somewhat annoying. Raul called me about what happened and said he went over their non-discrimination policy with their workers again. We both agreed that in this case they were simply being descriptive with the only words they actually knew for gay. He said their policy has been modified to warn their employees not to make personal comments in any language. They use a prefab list of costs for each item you request done. This is good for avoiding negotiation but I found it annoying that they charged the same rate for each item no matter how much work you requested. For example, if you order 1 GFI or 5 a electrician has to come out and will charge you about an hour's time and parts. Why is their rate the same for each one? It would seem to me that if they are going to do this then the rate should be item cost with the labor and travel the time separate. The way they charge their is really no benefit to having them do several things at once. Raul and I talked about this, they do have a set cost structure. In further thinking about it, there seems to be a critical line in the number of extra items you ask them to do where it might be cheaper to bring in and outside party. For a few of a given item or tasks the cost and the extra frustration work on the same, but if you have several things like outlets and vents, I would suggest that you get and specialist who charged by the hour. My last comment is on the Angies discount, they give you $1000 if you sign when the sales person makes his pitch but if they do this they will not let you use the Angie's List coupon which was worth about $1600 for my roof. I choose to use the Angie's list coupon but in truth it was really only worth $600 since I lost the other discount. I talked with Raul about this, he said the sales person should have explained what happened and offered to let us contact him later. On a side, note we did end up getting a roof that was 2 tiers higher from the coupon. It turns out that the sales person had picked three roof options for us to view, each one was up two cost tiers higher from the other. When we ordered he moved us from the first option to the second one he offered us, so it worked out for us in the end.

They are good. They came and took care of the problem right away. They were punctual. They did good work. The roof hasn't leaked since. I think the people who lived here before tried to repair it several times. The price was good. The guy who did the estimate also did the repair.

I thought I needed a whole new roof, but after checking the roof, Ron told me my roof was good for another ten years. How cool is that? Ron was there exactly on time to do the inspection and Raul showed up on the date scheduled and completed the repairs before I got home that day. Cheri and Jason in the office were a pleasure to deal with as well. I'd contacted two other roofers (who looked good on the BBB site), but they didn't bother to return my calls. Boo, eh? Let's see, Roofmax was on time, didn't sell me more than I needed and communicated like real professionals? No brainer. :-) Couldn't ask for better service and I've already given their phone number to a work friend who lives in Clayton. Well done, you guys. Thanks! Bob Antioch, CA Note: I marked N/A on "quality" because I won't know how well the work was done until it rains again. I'm guessing it'll be perfect, though. :-)
