After selecting this contractor, they were able to start work about three weeks later as I recall. Since this was a large project, I felt that this was fairly prompt scheduling. Work started in December just as we started into the rainy season. They hurried to get the excavation done and the foundation poured before scattered rainstorms made the soil unworkable. There was a lot of rainy weather throughout the construction, which delayed some work until they were able to get the building enclosed. Depending on the type of work being done, they had a crew of 2 to 4 people generally, sometimes more during the grading and foundation work. Ben Cartwright the owner was frequently onsite working and his site manager was in frequent contact with me to keep me appraised about the schedule and to get my approval on details of the design and building components (doors, windows, door hardware, paint colors, etc.). One feature of the building that required much effort on everyone's part was the custom French doors that I required. The door vendor made some mistakes which required a lot of work on the contractor's part to fix. Considering the effects of the weather the work proceeded at a good pace. Ben often worked well into the evenings and often on the weekends often with one or two helpers. Once the building was completed, the work on the site cleanup including sprinkler and yard drain repairs went at a slower pace. Overall I was very happy with the work that they did. Their workmanship was excellant and they were very agreeable about minor changes. I did ask them to increase their scope of work beyond the original project and they were very accomodating about that and their charges for the extra work were quite reasonable.
Description of Work: They acted as the general contractor to build an 800 sqft workshop in my back yard. This included excavation, foundation and sidewalks, rough and finish carpentry, electrical work both inside the building and running electrical cables from my home's main panel, roofing, painting and gutters. Perhaps half of the work was done by their own workers. I furnished professional blueprints and obtained my own building permits.
