Luis Castellanos met me at my home, surveyed the scope of work I would need quoted me a very competitive price compared to the other masons with whom I had spoken. He has been in business for 30 years, is licensed and insured and never once tried to upsell me. Instead, he sent me a typed proposal later that day, complete with the price he had mentionoed, a detailed list of the services that price would cover and contact information for five references. All week, Luis Castellanos and his team have been consistently punctual, respectful and professional. They are the hardest working, most detail-attentive people you could hope to engage. I am redoing my garden, which is not very large. I had selected the stone for tiling on the terrace, a different stone for a footpath and gravel to fill in around the terrace and footpath. My understanding with the rock/gravel vendor was they would help me transition their products from their truck to my backyard, or at least provide me with some sort of containment for the gravel so it would not roll into the street. Apparently something got lost in communication between their dispatch and delivery and the delivery man did nothing more than drop off his wares. My understanding with Luis was simply that he would work on tiling the terrace; thinset the stone, do some waterproofing work near my door and mortar the stones in place. They finished all of that work yesterday, which far exceeded my expectation. They could have taken off and left me to figure out the rock/gravel situation. Instead, noting my dismay, they agreed to return this morning to help me lay the footpath and the gravel. His team was not under any obligation to help me beyond the stone work on the terrace, but they returned this morning as they said they would, put in a full day helping me and hauled away the extra gravel. They then returned to rinse the garden, sweep gravel bits off the footpath and leave the whole thing picture perfect. I could not be more impressed or grateful.
