I thought the price was pretty reasonable. They were responsive, they told us what they were going to build, how long it would take and how fast the parts would be here. They cleaned up after they finished and they even helped us paint a discolored wall after they removed the old railings.
The cabinets turned out to be more spacious than I had imagined! The only flaw I found was on the top of a metal strip on the door, the metal was rough, like it was a new cut and had not been sanded smooth. However, this was any issue only on one door and I found it an easy fix and not worth calling them back.
The installers came within the time frame they had given, efficiently and neatly installed all the pieces, did a "walk through" to be sure I was satisfied,
I may need to rearrange some of the pieces, but so far the new closet looks promising in terms of reducing the numbers of containers needed to accommodate my clothes.
I would recommend The Closet Doctor to anyone looking for an improved situation. I did have an additional expense, beyond what the Closet Doctor charged, to prepare the space--old shelves and cabinets removed, floor patched, walls patched and painted. A good idea to keep in mind that the space does have to be prepared in order for a closet system to be installed.
- Derrek was efficient in his measurements and discussion of our requests. He worked with us to revise his design based on our feedback including minute details around accessibility of an access panel restrictions based on our requested changes for that wall. We were very pleased with being presented with both closet system options (wall hung and floor standing) that allowed us to choose the wall hung design that aligned to our vision.
- It was great that Derrek had an option to leverage another contractor to handle the tear out and refinishing with painting of the walls. This was a key requirement for our selection process. The Closet Doctor coordinated many aspects of this arrangement to make the process effortless for us.
- The installation day was well executed with two installers starting out in separate rooms until the smaller 2nd bedroom closet was done, then worked together to complete the master. They worked efficiently and with a focus on quality.
- The finished product looks great and we are very pleased.
The installers were in and out in a couple of hours, and didn't leave a mess behind. We've been using the cabinets for nearly a month now, and I don't know how we ever got a long without them.
For my wife and me, the main point is that one doesn't have to spend a bloody fortune on on finished furniture designed for a fancy living room. The cabinets were well-built with quality components. They were not over-built with parts or gizmos we didn't need.
Perfect job, I'd say. I can't wait to use these guys on some other projects around the house.
I then decided to have them redo the shelving in my pantry which was not very usable. Now, it is so much more efficient! I never thought I would get excited by a pantry, but I love it!
I highly recommend this company!
UPDATE:
This is an update to my August 14, 2013 review. Today Derrick the owner called us regarding the install of the ironing board. He apologized for the delay in answering our concerns. He offered to compensate us for the ironing board and the door. We told him we did not want compensation. At the end of the call Derrick seemed very sincere and explained measures had been put in place to address any future concerns like the ones we had expressed. We love the bed, the craft workspace and even the ironing board. We feel that we could now refer this company.
So I took time off work, came home, measured all 4 closets and draw everything up...closet organizers are not my field of expertise...but did email them to the owner. The design meeting in The Closet Doctor's factory went just okay although I'd have to say that the owner was not overly outgoing or friendly. He did mention he likes my sort of job...small closets & high profit...those were his words. That's fine I guess.
The silliness about all of this? The owner still sent out one of his employees to completely re-measure my closets...so why was I asked to measure my own closets and send them to the owner? That still puzzles me.
Scheduling a time to install was another issue...and why I gave them a rather poor grade in communication. At the time of the design consultation in Lincoln, the owner mentioned he'd try for 22 July. Unfortunately I never heard another word from them after that until I called a few days before (17 July) and was told by another co-worker (owner had gone on vacation) that my install had tentatively been scheduled for 31 July. A day before the install, I had not heard anything about whether the installation was still on and at what time the installers would arrive. I had to contact them via email (phone calls are rarely answered) and request a confirmation on the date and time. Before that, there were also many emails that were not answered in a timely manner...same with phone calls. I understand they are a small business but if you ignore prompt and timely responses to clients' questions or calls...well...that sends a message to the client.
I give an "A" for the installation...Kevin (the installer) arrived on time and did his work well...friendly too. There were a couple of rods that needed to be recut and brought out...those were done the same day by another co-worker (Hugo). Also very friendly.
To conclude...the product is good. The installation was good. The price a bit less than some other local/national closet organizer firms (but they all are expensive)...communication and letting your client know what is going on...well, I'll let you decide.
"(deleted member name), I am glad you are happy with everything on your install. The slatwall we put in is the same pattern that is used in commercial applications but is different from what is offered at most big box stores. In the next few weeks we will be launching a new website and you will be able to order all of the accesroies fro the slatwall directly from us if you like."
