I have consulted with experts on the shipping of grandfather clocks (especially Herschede) who state that the clock was improperly shipped laying down. Grandfather clocks should be transported in an upright manner to minimize the risk of damage. Since Craters and Freighters shipped the clock laying down, significant damage occurred to the clock.
While the vast majority of the other pieces we shipped arrived intact and undamaged, the significant damage to the clock is too much to overlook. For shipping general freight, Craters and Freighters is just fine. But for valuable antiques which require a higher degree of care and expertise, I would look elsewhere.
"Craters & Freighters packed and shipped the grandfather clock after the client had it professionally decomiasioned. Clients representation that the clock should be shipped standing upright is not correct for less then truckload (LTL) shipments. The packed crate would fall over due to the narrow footprint. Furthermore, the client did not report the damage until after 2 months went by. Accordingly, we do not know when or how the damage occurred, as our contract clearly states that they have 10 days to report damage."
