We recently moved to Lancaster from the San Fernando Valley, where we had a really great mechanic. But 60 miles one way is a long trip, particularly when the temp. gauge on the truck is pegging up to 3/4. So we turned to Angie's List to hopefully find a good, trustworthy, local shop, and once again we were not disappointed.
We dropped off the truck at 8:30 in the morning, described the problem and left it for them to diagnose the issue. We didn't hear anything by 2:00 so I decided to call and see what was going on, at that time they told me that they couldn't find anything wrong but they would keep it until 4:00 and keep checking. When they called back at 4:00 they told me they found nothing and we could come pick it up.
When we arrived at the shop Rick described what they did and went over the possible reasons that the gauge could have spiked like that. He also told me that they checked the fluids and put some grease on my door hinges. I asked how much and he told me that they didn't do any work on it so there was no charge. This caught me off guard to say the least, they could have easily charged me a fee for the time they spent looking at it, or they could have been dishonest and made something up and charged me for work they didn't even do (maybe I'm just a skeptic, but this has been known to happen with shady car shops).
Needless to say, AL didn't let me down and I now have a new shop that is much closer to home!
We have two cars that will be taken to QH Automotive for as long as we are living in the area.
The flower was a nice touch too.
I had a really expensive year with other mechanics - I don't know if it was their fault, but I'm very paranoid about them, especially here in Lancaster. The good professionals and mechanics seemed to be in Los Angeles. I'm really grateful to Angie's List for sending me to QH, which is just a walk away from me in Lancaster (I only have one car that works - another long story). They told me the problem was that one of the last mechanics had reinstalled some hoses badly. I came in about 3 and said that I had to have the car back, so they finished it by 6, for the basic price. I am very releaved, since I was runnning out of money on car repairs.
Doug Beimler's QH Automotive treated us in a professional manner, and were not condescending like the Nissan Dealer. We have found a new mechanic!
I have a Nissan Frontier. I will trust "her" to QH Automotive as well...without worry of being ripped off.
