I interviewed Ken because he was recommended by my sister?s friend, he was licensed by the California Contractors State License Board and bonded, and he had remodeled kitchens in my neighborhood. I hired Ken because I was impressed by his careful consideration of all the ideas I had and with his thoughtful suggestions to improve them. I asked for referrals and looked at two kitchens he had recently remodeled. I spoke with the homeowners, who endorsed Ken with no reservations. I began with the money-saving idea of simply repainting my existing cupboards and adding a few new ones, removing the fluorescent lighting, and replacing the vinyl flooring with hardwood. I also wanted the wood paneling and acoustic ceiling in the adjoining room removed, the ceiling and walls repaired and painted, and crown molding installed. The project grew as it became clear that I could have the entire kitchen gutted with only a moderate increase in the budget. I would then have an integrated design rather than a patchwork one, and one that functioned much better than the current one. As we progressed, Ken made additional suggestions when it was discovered that some of the sixty-three year old plumbing needed replacing and the walls under the paneling had water damage. All of the extra charges were reasonable. Ken?s passion is his woodworking. He carefully measured as we discussed each cupboard, drawer and shelf. I was able to gain a larger pantry and deeper drawers than are standard. The finished cabinets are beautiful, and each door and drawer functions perfectly. Ken answered all of my many questions and concerns with patience and professionalism. He is a person of integrity and has a solid work ethic. I appreciated his attention to detail and the quality of the results. Most of his subcontractors have worked with him for years and also showed excellent craftsmanship. They were all polite and respectful, and I felt comfortable leaving them alone in my house. When Ken was not there working, he would stop by or call on a regular basis to check in with his workers, and he would make sure I was satisfied with their work. He usually answered his phone when called or would return calls as soon as possible. Overall, Ken and his crew did an excellent job at a fair price. I can recommend him highly and would be happy to work with him again.
