OK, I hired George of San Diego Remodeling to build some deck stairs. We had a signed agreement to match the deck I had already built. He did an OK job of making and installing the stringers, but complained about the lifetime pressure treated wood and the stainless steel screws, saying they weren't really stainless steel, and the pressure treated wood (with a lifetime guarantee) would rot just as fast as plain construction wood. He told me I put too many posts in for my deck railing. I showed him a copy of the San Diego County Residential code bulletin to show why I did that. He seemed unfamiliar with that and asked for a copy, which I gave him. He failed to put wood preservative on the stringers where he cut them. He seemed completely unaware of this wood, and how to handle it. When he did screw down the steps, he over screwed into the redwood steps and was incapable of putting screws in a straight line. As an amateur, I was able to do that and not overscrew. He dumped his waste material in my garbage can instead of disposing of it himself. THEN, today when he was to install the stair railing, he refused to install the 4x4 posts written in our contract, and insisted on using 2x2s only, with a 2x6 hand rail turned sideways, which would not only look like crap but most likely not be up to code and not be very strong or easy to hold on to. So when I asked him how and when he would put the 4x4 posts in, he accused me of yelling at him (I didn't). I told him I didn't change my mind and still wanted the railing to match what I had done already. Without a word he promptly started packing up his stuff and left. He broke the contract and walked off the job! I am not convinced they have the expertise, knowledge or experience to do this sort of work! Do not use San Diego Remodeling! If I could give them a negative star, I would!
Description of Work: George worked Saturday, 6/11/!6. completing half of the job only, and walked off the job without saying why on Sunday 6/12/16. He was paid for more than 50% of the work.

Yes we did try to install a set of stairs for Mr.[Member Name Removed] - We cut out the stringer and redwood boards for the steps on Saturday - Went to get our materials for the handrails for the next day - We showed up a 8.00 am Sunday Morning to finish the stairs and handrails - Mr. [Member Name Removed] was mad and started yelling at us calling us names like ( you are stupid, you do not know what you are doing, you have no experience, get the f--- of my property, your a hole get off my property and do not come back ) We did not have our tool out or the materials out of the van yet - When a customer tells you to get off there property YOU HAVE TO LEAVE - Mr. Roger needed the deck , stairs and handrail for his insurance policy ( to be cancelled ) on his home - We did fell sorry for Mr. [Member Name Removed] as being an elderly man , and give him a big discount - Mr. [Member Name Removed] went to the contractor board and wanted all his money back and keep his set of stairs - We had video recording of Mr. [Member Name Removed] calling us names and yelling for us to give the f--- off his property AND WE PLAYED THE RECORDING FOR THE CONTRACTOR BOARD AND THE CASE AGAINST US WAS DROPPED BY MR. [Member Name Removed] - Mr. [Member Name Removed] was the worse customer we ever had in 40 years in remodeling and repair business - We still fell sorry for Mr. [Member Name Removed]
