This review has been a long time coming. Joe's did work on my place about a month ago but I have been extremely busy with little ones and a demanding job, and have felt guilty every day for not doing this earlier. In a nutshell, they FAR exceeded my high expectations. Hopefully you will read on to understand why. But, before that, you should know that I have a lot contractor friends from various trades who were completely impressed with their work, attention to detail, and UNBELIEVABLE customer service (more about that later). I had the pleasure to interact with Dustin, Jason, Mike, and Frank. Dustin is the project lead who bids and oversees the projects. He is an honest and friendly guy and my family really enjoyed shooting the with him. It was clear that customer relationships were very important. I am eager to explain my interaction with the other guys, but first, a little context regarding the work they did would help. Our house was built in 1945. We purchased it as a fixer-upper in the Mount Helix area about three years ago. It had disgusting carpet and I realized it had hard wood underneath. Like a lot about this place, the wood was not cared for over the years. My wife found some sort of Groupon for professional carpet cleaning after we moved in and the guy (whom I also found very credible) said that the carpet was at least 25 years old and that he would do his best. Anyway, I ripped it all out and did my due diligence on companies to refinish the floors. Coincidentally, my high school friend, Art, just moved down the street. He works for a popular home building company and was having his hardwood floors redone at the same time. He offered up his "connection", but I went with Joe's. I could go on about this, but to cut to the chase, he looks at my floors and wishes he had done the same. I apologize for knowing that this is going to be so long (part of the reason that I hadn't done it earlier), but there are details that I can not dismiss. Be informed. What I will describe in greater detail is the discovery of original mixing of two different types of wood that would have to be matched with the demo of tile in the kitchen so that it would be unnoticeable (you really need to read the detailed description of this to fully appreciate), the terrible condition of the original wood in certain places (rot and uneven surfaces), the challenges of removing a finish from 70 years ago, and finally the very tricky handling of baseboards on bull-nose corners with sunken in door frames. This is getting too long, so I will not go too much into detail, but let me say, this place was a challenge and they never tried to change the bid. I want to same some space to talk about Mike, Jason, and Frank. I have 80 employees that I am responsible for. When you are responsible for an employee, you are responsible for everything that they do. I am reading over my texts to Dustin right now to quote what I said in real time and realize that I am a picky pain in the rear. "Your guys are killing it! We couldn't be happier. They have such great attention to detail. They even took it upon themselves to fix the register and lower it!" "The floors look (bleeping) awesome! Jason and Mike are amazing and their customer service is unrivaled. I made sure I bought them lunch a couple of days for how hard they were working, especially for coming in on a Saturday." (that was because it was so challenging to sand the varnish finish from the original wood). Mike and Jason were an absolute pleasure to have at my home. My kids, wife, and dogs loved hanging out with them for lunch. Like I said before, the baseboards were an absolute pain in the rear. I like 22.5 degree cuts around bullnose. I have done it myself in a previous home, but this place is a whole different monster. My other place was built in 2003. This place left no room for the thickness of contemporary base boards. In my haste while at work, I originally approved a method that would work for most. But, I am a picky pain in the butt, so I texted Dustin and said that I wanted it a different way. He did't bat an eye. I told him that I knew I was being a pain and he seriously told me, "No, if you are feeling that way, then we need to fix it. Our job is make you satisfied." I nearly fell over. I knew that it would add another day. So, listen up my friends and follow suit with your actions. I insisted that the quote be adjusted to compensate for the extra work. I still feel like I got an unbelievable deal. My wife, who has trouble parting with money, says it was the best experience ever. I could go on, and perhaps I will at a different time. But, if you want to get top notch service, incredible craftsmanship, and know that your money was well spent, I recommend Joe's without reservation. They will be doing my condo (as long as they will go to Temecula...) To wrap this up... Dustin saw that there were two types of wood, white and red oak, and mixed the beautifully. Frank didn't get enough praise here. He did so much unexpected work because there were so many challenges with this job. He was just like the others. Very cool. I would have them over for a barbecue any time.
