VCA Saddleback Animal Hospital

I have an old dog, he is 13. In fact he is supposed to have a senior wellness check which I didn't realize. I thought this check counted, but apparently it doesn't. He is blind and has been blind for over 2 years, he has glaucoma. He had something called cryosurgery which froze the nerve in his eyes so he would not have any pain. But his sight was gone because of the glaucoma.  There was no remedy for it to come back. The big thing was to save his life and give him no pain. SO he has had no pain from it. He is old but he seems to manage. Although today he is not having a good day, he threw up his breakfast. The doctor is very thorough and moderate. He isn't one to say let's give him this test, and let's do this medicine. He is conservative as far as going crazy over the dogs health. Some of it is the fact that he is 13. Your expectations have to be a littler different than if you have a puppy. I think he has a great understand of the dog, and old dogs. He is very thorough. His price is reasonable. He is not the first vet that I have taken the dog to. The previous veterinarian, not only did I feel that I was paying more money but he was giving him too many shots. The dog is actually now registered with this new veterinarian. He has this terrible reaction to this previous vet. I think it was too many shots, too close together and all this is why I don't see him anymore. I went into this office with 10 years worth of information on the dog so that he could understand the dogs history. He took the time to read through all this history.  He told me that we had these boosters too close together. Something he would give every 2 or three years, my dog was getting annually. So it was too much. Maybe it wasn't too much when he was young but maybe over the years he built up an immunity and don't do well with all that. I don't know if the dog didn't likes it more or less he never didn't like going to the vet. But I feel like it's up to me. Just like when you are a parent  you have to oversee the dog's welfare. If something doesn't seem right, and with him several things weren't right. The shots were just one of the things. The other was his eyes. It might not have come to him losing his sight if I had gotten better advise from the first vet. I have had a blind dog for over 3 years. It's not impossible, but it's a challenge.

This VCA animal hospital is no longer in business. Patients were transferred to VCA Mission Viejo Animal Hospital or VCA Arroyo Animal Hospital. The doctors and staff are very good at either location.

My experience with them was excellent. They were very caring and concerned about my dog. They followed what I thought were prudent practices to make sure she got through her little emergency and so I would recommend them.

We have had to go in there a few times for emergencies and they were very accommodating. They are very nice. I don’t think there is anyone who is unhappy with them. Their prices are expensive but they are fair. I just like the way they do business and they are really good.

I asked for a reference to an Oncologist and a board certified Surgeon. They said they'd do the surgery, I didn't need to see a board certified Surgeon, or an Oncologist. They would not give me a reference. I changed Vets.

They did a whole bunch of stuff that was not necessary with out warning me in advance of what the final costs would be. I was very upset because the price was ridiculously high. I was not expecting to have to pay that much in the end. They were nice and professional and all, but the price really set me off enough to never go there again.

I THINK THAT THE HOSPITAL DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB. THEY ARE VERY PERSONAL WITH THE ANIMALS. THEY ARE VERY PROFESSIONAL, AND AVAILABLE WHEN EVER I HAVE HAD NEED TO USE THEM.

THEY WERE COURTEOUS TO OUR NEEDS AND THEY WERE GENTLE. THEY WERE CAREFUL WITH HIM. THEY WERE SENSITIVE TO THE RABBITS NEEDS.
