James was amazing and professional.  He worked hard the whole time and was able to repair some tough areas.  The final job came out perfect and I felt was priced very fair for the amount of time he put into the job.  I would use him again for sure and have already shared his name with friends that are looking to do some work in the future.

Installed wall frames, baseboards, and crown molding throughout the downstairs of my house as shown by one of the pictures.  The picture only shows a small portion of what was installed but does give you a good idea of the details.  I also had a circular foyer where the design was kept consistent throughout the house.  Excellent and very professional work A++.  I will be using him for future work.

He is flexible in matching my availability, priced his work reasonably, and arrived on time for the quote and work.  He is pleasant to work with and acts professionally. The quality of his work is excellent! A+ rating!

I've dealt with numerous handymen and contractors over the years.  What I'm looking for is hard work, cleanliness, integrity, energy and a positive attitude.  These qualities are frequently in short supply in the handyman/contractor market.  However, James has all these traits.  This is why I continue to employ him.  He's done numerous projects for me.  His strongest suit I'd say is his carpentry skills. He's skilled in making shelves and cabinets, structural wood renovation and repairing wood damage.  He is also well skilled in painting and matching paint colors, and drywall repair.  He has a lot of experience and can handle most any issue (with the exception of say complicated electrical or plumbing issues).  On a personal level he has a bit of a perfectionist streak, which is most of the time a beneficial quality.  He wants to do the job right, and insists on doing so.  Contrast this with so many handymen and contractors who just want to get the job done so they can leave and take their check (and never return).  James is the guy you call to fix what "the other guy" screwed up on.  And if you tackle a new project remember that if you do it right the first time (with James) you don't have to re-do it a second time.

A long, non-standard size shower with old moldy tiles was demolished and replaced with a 48 inch large-tiled shower with new pan, a wall and shelving. The shower drain had to be moved for the new pan.
James did a superb job with perfect finish. Due to the kids responsibility, he could work only 4-5 hours a day but that was solid work. It took us a couple of weeks from demolishing to finishing since James did everything by himself. James gave us options without pushing anything on us. He took his time in setting the pan and moving the drain such that the pan does not rock. The final quality of his work is excellent. He cleaned up well after each day of work.
James also added lighting in the garage and a screen back-door. 
James is coming back for another small remodeling project once he is done meeting his other customers' needs. That is the only problem I see, a high quality guy like James will have many customers so one needs some patience to get his attention.

As good as it gets.

James was very cooperative and worked for I think about 3 days on our project.  He was a pleasure to work with and did a good job tearing out old tub, tile and drywall.  The new tub, drywall and hardy backer was installed in an expert manner.  
We had hoped to have James come back to help with finishing the drywall after my tile guy had completed the tub/shower tile, but he was busy with a big project he informed me about before commencing work at our home.
We were happy with his work and we plan to use him again in the future.

James is very prompt, responsible and easy to work with.  He has done a number of jobs for me at a very reasonable price and goes out of his way to get things done right the first time. He is honest, trustworthy and takes pride in his work.  I even hesitated to recommend him for purely selfish reasons -- I don't want him to get so busy that I might lose him!

It took several phone calls back and forth to connect (we played a bit of "phone tag"), but James was very diligent about always returning my calls so that we could finally speak in person.  He was held up the morning he was to come to my house, but he called to let me know he was running 30 minutes late, which was very much appreciated.  James took care of all the tasks on my list that he was able to do that day.  I had several more items on the list that required different tools and materials neither he or I had on hand, and we discussed how much time it would take to complete them in the future.  He gave me several ideas and suggestions, and the names of places I could go to buy the materials myself to save money.  As I was very impressed with his knowledge, expertise and professionalism.  I will definitely be calling him again to complete the work we discussed and anything else that might come up in the future. 

Started job on time. Customer focused. Efficient, thorough and considerate of surrounding areas. Immaculate clean up.

James did an excellent job in renovating our bathroom. We wanted to pick out and purchase our own items for the bathroom and have someone install them, which he was very agreeable to do. Anytime we had difficulties finding the right items he was always very helpful. We had a hard time finding a shower unit that would fit due to a window in the bathroom. James was able to find one that would work and did an excellent job in making some necessary adjustments to fit the window configuration.  During the remodeling process, James always made us fully aware of any issues or potential problems that came up.  He was knowledgable in all areas of construction needed to do the job. James was always very pleasant to work with, punctual and communicated well. We are very happy with out new bathroom. It came out beautifully and we are enjoying it. 

James Nichols was there as arranged to give us an estimate, and arrived for the work everyday as planned. He was courteous and cheerful at all times. His work was very well done and showed an unexpected attention to detail. There was a bit of delay due to difficulty in getting parts and paints, however, James arranged to return and finish everything up in a timely manner.
We will definitely have him back as needed and I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of a someone with skills exceeding the ordinary handyman.

We used the services of Nichols Home Improvement over the course of
several months, beginning in August of 2011. They managed an entire home
remodel, including gutting/remodeling the kitchen and two bathrooms,
new/improved electrical throughout the home, plumbing, extensive trim
work, including beadboard and wainscoting on the walls and ceiling,
custom woodwork, desk and entertainment built-ins, new interior
doors/installation, appliance installation, and more. Words honestly
can't do justice in describing how happy we are with the outcome.  All
aspects of the remodel turned out beautifully, however the most
important part to us was the high integrity and amazing work ethic
consistently displayed by Nichols Home Improvement during the entire
process. Clearly, we HIGHLY recommend Nichols Home Improvement to anyone
wanting a high quality, trustworthy experience, whether for a high-end

I have had the pleasure of working with James Nichols over the last several years at various properties.  I always call on him when I need things repaired or upgraded due to his extensive knowledge and versatility.  He is trustworthy, dependable, detail-oriented, professional, and just an all-around good guy.  He is meticulous in everything he does, and is not satisfied until the outcome is perfect.  His pricing is fair and quality of work extraordinary.  I feel so comfortable with James, he has a key to both of my properties!  No job has been too big, too small or too difficult.  James always figures it out.  I have and would recommend him highly to anyone who wants to improve their home.

I contacted him based upon his review in Angies list.  He responded very quickly to my phone message.  We set up a time and I know he had to contact me several times, as I have phone issues, but he did so.  He came in and did an excellant job.  He had already discussed with me what I would need to get for the garbage disposal.  He was helpful when I asked questions about other work I needed done.  Overall he seemed very honest and professional.  I would and will recommend him to all of my friends.

James did a great job for me with some handyman tasks.  He installed a set of blinds that I purchased on the internet - replacing an old set of verticals.  This was performed quickly and professionally.  He also replaced a ceiling fan with a new light fixture I had purchased recently.  This was also performed very efficiently and the new light works great.   He was very courteous and professional throughout the project.  I look forward to having James help me on additional projects.

I already had purchased a new toilet and vanity and he advised me on how to purchase tile.  He fit me into his busy schedule which I really appreciated and got the bathroom functional by the date I wanted.  The tile installation was the only work that was done by someone else.  James only uses the best people so this person was very professional, punctual, and the tile looks amazing!  James was very punctual and even let me know when he was running late.  I have had so many negative experiences with people working in my home, and I am so amazed and thankful for someone as good as James!  The bathroom looks fantastic and I want James to do several more remodeling projects in my home!
