DAD'S CONSTRUCTION INC

Dan Derkum presents himself as a professional contractor, who is very punctual and responsive when scheduling appointments and working thru a remodel project. Our challenge with DAD's Construction was their up-front cost to work thru a "Statement of Work", and Dan's constant insistence to retrofit the plumbing ( re-pipe ) in our house. Our first mistake was not collecting a cost estimate from at least two other contractors ( shame on us ), from the very beginning. We drew up plans for a home remodel with Dan Derkum, paid certain fees along the way, and when it came time for him to generate a price proposal, it was sky-high in cost and borderline ridiculous. I certainly fault our inexperience in dealing with contractors, and our lack of collecting three bids, but I also want to warn would-be clients to be very wary of the cost of doing business with this company! He talks a good game, and charges a premium for it. Based on this experience, we did not trust him to complete the full remodel. We changed directions, and went with another contractor that was 1/4 of the cost. We love our remodel, and saved $300 K.
One other note, that was a red flag during the design process with Mr. Derkum. When I introduced him to my father, who has contractor experience building homes for Habitat for Humanities, he wouldn't/couldn't look him in the eyes to discuss his proposed plans and cost estimates. Unfortunately for us, we put some money in his pocket before understanding the mistake we made.
I don't know how good the final product is from DAD's Construction, but I do know your going to pay thru the nose for it.
