Handyman, "working under the license of" his uncle (we never saw his uncle, nor were given a license number). The work that Mr. Lively actually performed was high quality. The problem was that he performed very little. Instead, most of the work, he hired out to other handymen or subcontractors, merely facilitating or "supervising" (when around). What work he did was drawn out over 7 or 8 months, and in the end, almost NOTHING he had started was finished. Some of it was *mostly* finished, such as a home office reno he did (walls textured, ceiling lights added, door added...but door addition unfinished). We could rarely get him to *fully* finish anything, instead needing to rely on the next contractor we hired after firing Mr. Lively. One major job, a bathroom reno, he made virtually no progress on, other than picking up the materials and doing the demolition...which then sat demolished for months. He would disappear, often for weeks on end, with *NO* communication until he would get back from wherever he had been. When asked or talked to in a professional manner about expected or desired timelines, about his sometimes questionable costs (for example, why had the hired-out carpet install cost so much, and where was the receipt [we NEVER got one]), about repeated and unanswered requests for invoices, etc, he would often get visibly upset and emotional, to the point of awkwardness for us. By the time we got exasperated enough to try to let him go, he had misplaced one of our bathroom cabinet doors, and rather than deducting from his bill for it, he insisted on borrowing another door to copy from, then threw this other in the bed of his pickup, angrily. After 7 or 8 months of forebearance and frustration and discomfort and disappointment, we looked around our property and wondered (a) how had so little been accomplished in so long a span of time, and (b) what was all the money for (with so much not done)? And where were all the receipts??? HIGHLY unprofessional.
