This company was hired to fix the roof of my apartment building. The did not properly cover the roof and it rained heavily, causing over 20 new leaks in my bedroom. I was not home when the rain and leaking started, and when I returned home I found it to be raining inside my bedroom. My linen bed and mattress was soaked. I attempted to cover the bed with plastic to prevent continuing damage, but obviously it was too late. When I addressed this with them, it was minimized and a blower was provided to dry out the room, with no future contact or response to contact attempts. Now I have been sleeping on my couch for 2 weeks and have yet to hear from them. My linen bed is ruined and stained, and my once hypoallergenic mattress is now filled with whatever spores and allergens that leaked through the roof as well as likely mold at this point. All I want is to be made right, however this is not happening. Their behavior has been unprofessional and clearly negligent and it would appear that they do not to take full responsibility for their negligent behavior.

This is why you hire a licensed company with local reputation to maintain. A worker dropped a roll of feltpaper on the roof, and hit the roof at just the wrong angle. It went through the roof, attic and living room ceiling, damaging 7 ceiling tiles that are no longer manufactured. Dan's sent a competent carpenter and paid for the entire ceiling to be replaced, about 700 square feet. That impressed me.
I think a company that is willing to take responsibility for the accident noted above probably installs a good roof.
I would just warn you that the salesman will not be your contact in case of issues you want to discuss, although he may say he is. He took 2 or 3 weeks to get me references. A couple of issues that were left incomplete at the end took a long time to receive attention, and I don't know why. I suppose they realized that it would be good to be paid before the end of the year, so they finally got it together and finished, and finished well. Everyone I talked to at Dan's Roofing was courteous, helpful, sincere, and of obvious good will. It just took a while to get stuff actually complete. I really struggled with the communications and follow-up problems, but all in all, we think we made a good choice to hire this company.
UPDATE: I wanted to wait for some rains before posting this review. Several months after the job was done, I noticed some crazy buckling of a large section. I called and talked to the office staff, no one called me back, which was no surprise. A week or two later I called again and was told the roofer had said that it was not their fault, the house was just like that. I insisted they send the roofer over to inspect it personally, and he did come, and said it was not his fault, the house was just like that. I never saw a buckling problem before, and his story about the under-structure doesn't make sense to me, but that's what we have. I admit the roof was not a simple task, and possibly he is right. One year has passed, with several rains; there have been no leaks.

The work was started within a week after signing the contract. Dan's workers were very professional. They were on the job at 7:00 Am and left the work site clean at the end of the work day. There was a problem with one sub-contractor. When the Dan's supervisor was notified of the problem, he immediately contacted the sub and the problem was resolved in a timely manner. About a week after the work was completed we experienced a leak during a thunderstorm. I notified Dan's. A worker arrived early the next morning, diagnosed the problem and performed the necessary work to correct it. It has been 1 year since the work was performe and no further problems have been experienced. We are very pleased with the results and our experience with Dan's Roofing.

They were super. They came very well recommended through my neighborhood group. They called me back and came back immediately and made their assessment of what needed to be done. They also noticed a couple other things and gave recommendations to fix one other thing now but to wait until I have a problem with the other to get it replaced. It was an issue with the spacing the shingles but he said it could wait because it would be expensive to fix.
