We had multiple problems in getting a finalized and signed contract from this contractor. Repeated promises both oral and in e-mail to get final copies to us proved meaningless. While we had firm price information, no lien rights and other legal obligations were ever followed. Their crane company that delivered the large trees, damaged our street and broke a major branch on our largest and most expensive tree when the landscape crew walked away and did not tend to the proper strapping of the tree. This landscaper refused to accept any accountability for these issues, claiming the crane company was not their sub and trying to subvert the law in this fact. They refused to pay their crane company so that we would, believing this would make the crane company our hire and not theirs (U.S. Law is very clear on this so this didn't work as Landscape Dimensions hired the crane co). We had to go out of pocket to repair the street in our community - and LD ended up telling their aborist, which they hired to evaluate the tree while they were still on site, to bill us directly - again subverting all responsibility and warranty obligation. After trees, irrigation and draining were done, the license holder and business owner of LD left our job and the country. She turned our job (and the business) over to her unlicensed brother, and things got worse. He began cutting corners and overbilling, including installing fewer irrigation heads in a given area than was previously there but now with 4x the number of plants. Ultimately, he waited until the job was 99% complete and then tried to bill us "actuals", claiming our agreement no longer applied and arguing that we "never had a contract" and "no foundation of a working relationship" oral or otherwise. It took lawyers and the CSLB to get involved to resolve this one - and to get this contractor to go away without a penny more than our agreement called for. We are still replacing plants to this day that were improperly placed due to sun/shade requirements and to date have lost or removed more than 200 plants and have had to completely re-install our weathertrac irrigation system.
