Horizon Underpinning

We hired Horizon Underpinning to do some work to correct a sloping upper floor in our home. The owner, John Martindale, was extremely difficult to work with: unclear and sparse with his communication, gave different answers to the same questions when asked multiple times, continually blamed the city inspection office for his failings, and was untruthful multiple times, did not communicate changes to our plans and would not have if we hadn’t asked about them. The engineer he hired to do the plans made multiple basic errors: one being incorrect dimensions of our house. Further, our sloping floors were never fixed when we got to the end of the project, even though we were repeatedly assured that they would be and we wouldn’t need to worry. Martindale’s solution to the problem was to send us a “change order” and propose to charge us an additional nearly $7,000 to correct the problem. After ending our contract with Horizon, we consulted multiple engineers and found the solution he proposed is not what any of them would recommend. We also learned that he had a citation on his Contractor’s license from a previous unhappy homeowner, and was also sued by his neighbor for similar problems that we had encountered. I wish I had done more research before working with Horizon and had found anyone else to work with. The owner has only fought us with bullying, lies, and has not even remotely tried to do right by us. We tried to work things out with him multiple times, but he would never answer our questions directly and just threatened legal action against us. Stay away!

I didn't like anything about the service. The initial quote was much lower than the final quote. And the initial estimate was twelve weeks and it took a year and a half. I would never, ever recommend them to anyone.
