David Espinoza, owner of the company came out in the late afternoon to give an estimate for brick repair work. There is brick veneer on the front of my house (two separate sections, each approximately 3' x 5' and one long section about 2' tall and 10' wide with the chimney centered in the middle of it) that had become damaged due to erosion from water and weather exposure. Since entire veneer sections weren't eroded, I wanted individual damaged bricks or scattered brick sections to be replaced (I didn't want to pay for the entire veneer sections to be removed and replaced). In addition, a section of a planter was also eroded and needed repair. I found Mr. Espinoza to be patient in listening to all of my concerns as well as extremely helpful in giving his professional opinion on what he could do to repair the damaged brick. My main concern was that I wanted individual bricks to be replaced with whole bricks (not hollowed out, filled with cement, and replaced with a "brick facade" as several masons suggested). Mr. Espinoza said that he preferred replacing brick for brick. In addition, the original bricks are "antique" (that have a worn, rustic look), so I was concerned whether the new bricks would match the original ones. Mr. Espinoza said he could find antique bricks that would blend in. Since, I wanted more than 55 individual bricks to be replaced (I had counted them out in order to get other estimates), instead of giving me a fixed price, written estimate, he suggested that we go with an open, written estimate (with an hourly labor charge and charge for materials). That way, he wouldn't overcharge me or undercharge himself. At first, I was taken aback by his suggestion (thinking that he might try and charge me thousands of dollars), however because of his straightforwardness and honest demeanor, I decided to go with my gut instinct and trust him. He said that he would get his best mason (who worked fast and efficiently) to do the job and the mason ended up being able to complete the project in one day. Other masons I got estimates from pushed to replace the entire planter and gave estimates ranging from $1600 to $2200. By going with Mr. Espinoza's company, my repair was done the way I wanted at a price that I thought was reasonable for the job. Needless to say, I'm very satisfied with their excellent work.
