Everything he touched had to be redone.
The painting has gone very poorly. He has consistently left bare and thin spots on the walls and trim. I've had to have him back twice to complete the coverage and both times he's done the bare minimum to comply with my request. Today we reviewed again what needed to be done and as I watched him "paint" I had to point out that the roller wasn't in fact rolling; it was sliding along the surface smearing the paint around. I pointed out that I could still see the color through this third layer of paint. He told me that you can't put new enamel paint over existing enamel paint. During the review of the work, I showed him where the prior blue color was still bleeding through the new ivory color on the walls, and he said, "I've painted that wall four times".
Not only were there bare spots, but there were lots of drips, globs, and debris from the brushes and rollers. The house has wooden window frames and he painted most of them shut. I've spent three days re-opening the windows and sanding the sashes so they function properly.
For fixing the back door screen, he merely took off the small wood trim and put it back on over the screening. The first time I touched the screen it came out again. It turns out the door had a channel and spline to secure the screening, but he was too .... to even pull the spline out and correctly replace the screening. For what he charged me to "fix and paint" the door, I could have bought a brand new one.
As for the tiling, the grout he used is subpar and I can rub it off with my finger or a damp washcloth. He keeps telling me that he is not a professional tile installer, which makes me wonder why he said he could repair the shower in the first place. I spoke with some folks a Home Depot and they said it sounded as if he'd used a product that wasn't suited to the purpose. I requested three times that he provide me with the name of the product he'd used, but he ignored me. I bought an alternative grout based on their recommendations and he refused to redo the grout work. He told me it just needed to be sealed again. He'd caulked in big sloppy globs and he didn't clean the area before he applied the new caulk. I eventually had to hire someone else to come in and correct his repairs.
He keeps saying he wants to "make it right" but he is obstinate and condescending in his attitude. I am fed up and unfortunately will have to find someone else to finish the job, or complete the work myself.
