We would highly recommend this company.
Sea Pointe refunded our full deposit, thus I am retracting my negative comments. Please remove this review as the owner kindly asked me to remove my comments from the Internet.
The biggest problems we encountered were issues with the City (not unusual with the City of San Clemente). Issues that did arise were handled promptly with solutions that met our expectations. The quality, professionalism and craftsmanship of our work crew was exceptional. Amazingly, we were able to complete the room addition while I continued to run my home daycare without any interruptions.
Five years later, when we decided it was time for a new kitchen, we did not hesitate to call Sea Pointe. Our designer, Carolyn Hall, was wonderful. She was able to combine our ideas, making suggestions along the way, and was able to keep us on track even though we did have a few last minute changes we wanted to make. The crew for the kitchen included several members from the room addition which was an additional plus. Remodeling the kitchen was not as easy as the room addition. Not having a kitchen for several weeks did cause some tension and frustrations, (One needs to know this ahead of time and be prepared).
The room addition did take longer than expected due to delays caused by the City Building Department. The kitchen was completed within the 8 week time frame given to use by Sea Pointe. We did go over budget on both projects. This was due to changes we made along the way.
We are extremely happy with both projects. One of the biggest compliment I can share was my son's reaction when he came home from college for Thanksgiving. He enjoys cooking and when he saw the kitchen he informed us that he would not be moving out after graduation. I would be happy to invite other potential clients to see the work completed by Sea Pointe. With their help my house became a home.
Sea Pointe's designer Carolyn Hall not only helped with the construction materials selected but she also helped coordinate those materials with an entire master bedroom re-do. Dave Park the project manager was responsive to all issues that arose during construction and helped me feel confident that my master bathroom and dressing suite will turn out as I expected. Sea Pointe met my budget needs and time constraints which minimized stress during the project. Additionally, they were respectful to my property and took extra care in the cleanliness during construction.
took us to see other homes they had remodeled, but at the end of the day, I strongly
believe it was a scam to get our $20,000. The sketches were probably
worth a couple of hundred dollars and the actual plans were probably
worth no more than $8K. It was a complete waste of time. He talked a
good talk but we could NEVER get a price out of him for anything that we
asked for until he printed out his bid with was nearly $200 more than
the actual budget we gave him. I strongly believe he did it on purpose
and never actually planned to construct our home at all. I believe he
made the price up so far beyond our reach that we would not ever be able
to proceed. Unfortunately we could not use the plans to go with another
builder because of a minor clause at the bottom of the contract that
does not allow one to do so. So, we were stuck going with Seapointe or
nothing. We ended up selling the home and purchasing a brand new 1.2
million home instead. The loan we took out was for only $625K. We got
everything we wanted and even an elevator in our new home. Andy Shore
seems like a nice person, but he is running a scam and using his
kindness and charm to take people's money. My father and I disagreed
completely about working with him. I knew Andy was up to no good all
along. With our new home purchase we new exactly how much all the
upgrades, the flooring and everything cost up front. The pricing point
came with numbers on it. Something Andy never provided. I would never
ever do business with this company and would strongly advise even my
worse enemies not to sign the design to build contact. It is a $20,000
trap!
"[member name removed] – We're very sorry that after almost a year you don’t feel we provided your Father with valuable planning services. Your father, [member name removed], was our client and informed us last year that your family would be purchasing a new home rather than continue with the remodeling process, as it made more sense in his particular case. At the time we felt we were ending the relationship very amicably and although very sorry to hear he was not continuing with the remodel, he said he was happy to recommend us and use him as a referral for future projects. For large whole home remodels and additions, like your Fathers, we need space planning, design, engineering, architectural plans and all interior design material selections prior to being able to price a project. Unfortunately this takes time to complete. After 27 years in business, we have found that beginning the design/build process with a design agreement is the best way to insure our clients receive the project they want prior to committing to a large construction contract. In this case, had we rushed to a contract, your Father would not have had the best final outcome which is our goal. All of our designers, including Andy do their best not to throw out “Guesstimates” as many times they can be inaccurate when making assumptions which leaves unhappy clients later. In our beginning budget conversations with [member name removed] and your family we told you we could not complete all that you were asking for within your budget. We designed an initial scope of work to meet your budget, which [member name removed] signed. Through the design process you increased the scope of work by over 60%. This then increased the final budgets. Throughout the process we did our best to explain that expanding the scope of work would also be expanding the budget. Our process may seem longer than expected, but this is to ensure design approval from our clients and pricing accuracy. In speaking with your Father, [member name removed], just last week, he still expressed his satisfaction with our process and was still happy to refer new clients. We are sad to hear you’re still unhappy with our process but hope that your new home is the best final outcome for your family."
